The Best Dressed Stars At The 2021 Golden Globe Awards

The 78th Golden Globe Awards are here and while we're all for admiring the incredible television series, shows, and films that have been recognized for their brilliance, we can't help but ogle over the outfits stars donned on the red carpet this evening. While things are still quite different in terms of award ceremonies this year due to the pandemic, it by no means put a damper on the sartorial spirit that showed up tonight.

We could go on about each of the outfits, but there were a handful that truly stood out thanks to the work of some talented stylists and creative celebs. Cynthia Erivo's neon green, conical gown from Maison Valentino was a refreshing change from the minimal colors usually seen at awards shows, making it an instant showstopper and Sarah Hyland's off-the-shoulder cherry-colored dress was a definite red carpet success thanks to its silhouette and her matching hair. Even media presenters Sofia Carson and Zuri Hall made major statements in their respective duo-chrome grown and bright red two piece ensemble (via ELLE). But of course, that's not all.

Below, see five stars who completely took the spotlight at this year's Golden Globes.

Tina Fey turned heads in a gorgeous blazer dress

Instead of opting for a pantsuit or a lengthy gown, Golden Globes co-host Tina Fey selected to wear a sleek, mini black blazer dress from Versace, according to Vanity Fair. Its sharp frame and shiny black lapels were the perfect complement to her bubbly counterpart Amy Poehler's black sequined mini dress, which was custom Moschino (via Vanity Fair). Fey paired her look with printed tights and a few pieces of chunky jewelry.

Makeup-wise, her go-to gal Gita Bass went for a glossy pink lip and a smudged purple smoky eye, while her hair stylist Matthew Monzon opted for brushed out waves — both of which served as the perfect effortless contrast to a very formal outfit.

Angela Bassett's plum-colored feathered gown was an unforgettable ensemble

Adorned in a cascade of plum-colored feathers, Angela Bassett's Dolce & Gabbana dress for the 2021 Golden Globes was certainly the definition of haute couture. While it was incredibly bold, it held an air of sophistication at the same time. To match her dress, her stylist Jennifer Austin selected a pair of stiletto pumps in an identical hue, and in chose a bedazzled micro bag for her to carry.

As for the rest of her look? Bassett's hairstylist Randy Stodghill opted for an ultra sleek braid to help steal the show and her makeup artist D'Andre Michael stuck with a soft and feminine color palette for her eyes and lips.

Bassett starred as the voice of Dorothea in Pixar's Soul (via IMDb), which is up for a nomination, and she was chosen to be one of the presenters at tonight's ceremony (via E! Online).

Sarah Hyland's bold all-red look was undeniably stylish

Sarah Hyland arrived at The Golden Globes donning a vibrant red Monique Lhuillier gown that nearly matched her curled red mane (via USA Today). The sweetheart neckline was complemented with shoulder-hugging sleeves and a pair of glimmering dangly earrings.

Although many stars rely on high-end designer outfits and makeup, Hyland opted for a more budget-friendly route this time around — at least when it came to her makeup. According to a post on Instagram from her makeup artist Allan Avendaño, she wore a full face of e.l.f., which is known for its inexpensive cosmetics.

Andra Day stunned in a glimmering silver gown

The actress and singer, who was been nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the movie The United States Vs. Billie Holiday, showed up to the virtual party in a dazzling getup from Chanel. The dress consisted of a tulle halter top attached to a netted bodice and tulle skirt. Paired with the mist-colored dress were several sparkling rings and a dangling ear cuff.

Day's makeup and hair were a 10 out of 10, too. Her skin had an ethereal glow and her lipstick featured an ombré effect, with a deep purplish-red liner framing a brighter pink. Her makeup artist for the movie — Laini Thompson — recently took to Instagram to discuss the shiny red lipstick Billie Holiday used to wear, and we can't help but feel like this lustrous berry version feels like the perfect mix of a modernized look fit for Day and a nod to the late, great singer.

Amanda Seyfried glowed in her '40s-inspired tribute

Amanda Seyfried is up for a nomination for her role in the movie Mank (per Deadline), and her look for the evening's festivities was reflective of the decade after the movie's 1930s setting. Her hairstylist Renato Campora explained in an Instagram post that he was "inspired by 1940s Hollywood and wanted to create a classic & iconic Hollywood look," and therefore teased out soft, waves with a dramatic side part.

Her Oscar de la Renta dress completely fit the part, too. Its muted sherbet color and petal-laden frame was utterly glamorous and matched well with her peachy lipstick and glowing blush.
