Kate Middleton's Role In Prince William's Life Today

As reports and books come out, all promising to uncover the rift between Prince William and his brother, Prince Harry, it appears that the Duchess of Cambridge has been the source of support behind her husband's calm countenance. Following an explosive interview with Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, in which they aired royal family secrets to Oprah, Prince William has been on the receiving end of questions concerning his character. A two-hour-long special that implicated nearly all of the Windsors, the TV segment likely changed things behind the palace walls but made Princess Kate an even more prevalent person in her husband's life.

According to Us Weekly, the CBS interview worsened already-strained relations between the brothers. The outlet notes Prince William's anger over the Sussexes' public crusade against the Crown. A source revealed the pair's shock over the seeming betrayal, especially after Markle revealed that her sister-in-law made her cry before her 2018 nuptials to Prince Harry. But, even through the family turmoil, Middleton has provided the stability William has needed.

The Duke and Duchess have had numerous public outings that they attended together, looking as connected as ever. Outside of a short statement, the palace has stayed relatively mum following the allegations of racism and a deep royal rift. Meanwhile, Middleton has smiled for the cameras, visited COVID vaccination centers and spoken with front-line workers, People reports.

Prince William is protective of Kate Middleton

While Kate has provided a steady presence for Prince William in the wake of the controversy, Prince William has also leaned on her in various other ways. A source told Us Weekly, "Kate's used to all eyes being on her. Being in a strong, solid marriage to William helps. They lean on each other for support during difficult times and will talk through their problems. She's been her husband's pillar of strength throughout this whole ordeal."

An intensely private person, the Duchess of Cambridge was blindsided when the interview aired. Royal expert, Katie Nicholl echoed the sentiment to the British publication, OK Magazine, "This has been a very hard few days for Kate, but she turned up and was committed to her work and duty last week. People did notice that she appeared downcast and subdued. Behind closed doors, she has been saddened, disappointed and hurt."

The expert, who has penned a book about the Duchess, continued, "Kate is so discreet and respects her personal life. You never hear about her falling out with anyone because she is very careful with how she treats others."

As for her relationship with her husband, it appears that the battle for public opinion has brought them even closer together with royal biographer, Penny Junor telling Express, "William is very protective of Kate and can get very angry."

Amidst a pandemic and family tumult, the Cambridges have appeared to grow stronger than ever, defending one another in public and in private.
