What We Know About Lifetime's Latest Meghan And Harry Movie

As much as you wish it would, The Crown may never immortalize Harry and Meghan's story. It's unlikely that the Netflix hit series' sixth and final season will even touch upon their meet-cute (via The New York Times). (Much less, Piers Morgan's supposed involvement in it.) Those of us hungry to continue exploring the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's break from the royal family will nonetheless have a chance to do so, thanks to Lifetime. In a March 24 statement, Lifetime announced that it's currently casting for a third Harry & Meghan movie. This one, you'll be thrilled to know, is provocatively titled Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace.

British director Menhaj Huda, who also directed Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance and Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal, is back to direct the third film in the franchise. If you're a fan of Charmed or The Flash, episodes of which Menhaj Huda also directed, you'll want to tune in for Escaping the Palace (via IMDb). For Lifetime's third Harry & Meghan installment, Huda will again draw on the support of a female-dominated team, including writer Scarlett Lacey and executive producers Merideth Finn and Michele Weiss. You'll have appreciated Weiss' work before if you watched The Time Traveler's Wife or How to Be Single (via Charitybuzz). Time to stock up on the popcorn!

Third Meghan and Harry movie will expose "Meghan's growing isolation and sadness"

According to Lifetime's statement, Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will shine a light on "what really happened inside the palace that drove Harry and Meghan to leave everything." The cable channel further promises to "detail Meghan's growing isolation and sadness, [and Meghan and Harry's] disappointment that 'The Firm' was not defending them against the press's attacks." Finally, the made-for-TV film "will also reveal the private family feuds between Will and HarryKate and Meghan, and Harry with Will and Charles, that lead to the ultimate break from the royal ties." It's unclear what, if any, insider information Lifetime might draw on, but the synopsis sounds an awful lot like a dramatization of Oprah's interview to us.

Far be it from us to complain. Lifetime hopes to begin production this spring in preparation for a fall 2021 release date. There's no word yet if actress Tiffany Smith will reprise her role as Meghan for the upcoming film, but we hope she does! "Meghan is amazing and beautiful," Smith, gushed to Vulture in a 2019 interview, "I really did have such an incredible time on this project. I can't imagine that if we did it again, it wouldn't still be an incredible experience for me. We'll just have to wait and see."
