Blake Shelton's ACM Performance Had A Hidden Connection To Miranda Lambert

Among the many performers at the 56th annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday was Blake Shelton. The singer and The Voice judge was also nominated for Music Event of the Year for "Nobody But You" featuring his fiancée Gwen Stefani, according to Entertainment Weekly. The two got engaged last October, and have been together for over five years after meeting on the set of The Voice in 2014 (via Hello! Magazine).

Blake's ex-wife and fellow country all-star Miranda Lambert was also among the 29 artists who performed at the awards show on Sunday (via Taste of Country). Not only did Lambert kick off the show by performing "Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)" with Elle King, but she stepped in to perform with Chris Stapleton after his wife, Morgane Stapleton, couldn't perform "due to [a] prior doula commitment" (via Us Weekly). And it seems that Blake Shelton's performance involved a little hidden connection to Miranda Lambert as well.

Blake Shelton sang the hit that he once sang with ex Miranda Lambert

When Blake Shelton hit the stage, he performed a little bit of everything for his fans. That included new hit "Minimum Wage," which is expected to be on his upcoming studio album, Body Language, according to Taste of Country. But before that, Shelton began his performance with his debut hit single "Austin." The song came out in 2001, so it was a real throwback for OG fans of the country singer (via CMT News).

Some fans may even remember that Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert once sang the song together back in 2014 (via YouTube). The two would call it quits just one year later in 2015 after 10 years together (via People). The split was an emotional one, especially for fans who considered the two country royalty. So, it would make sense that some fans would clock the connection between the two with Shelton's ACM performance.

However, both Shelton and Lambert have happily moved on after their split. Miranda Lambert married N.Y.P.D. officer Brendan McLoughlin in 2019 (via People). And of course, Shelton and Stefani are expected to wed soon. However, they haven't picked a date just yet, but that's because the two want to have a big ceremony, according to Sounds Like NashvilleWith current COVID-19 restrictions, that can be a bit hard right now.
