Building A DIY Hanging Shelf Is Easier Than You Think
DIY projects have been all the rage in recent years, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. They can range from accent walls to clay earrings, and DIY projects are always both fun and rewarding. After all, you've made or built something — you should be proud!
One perfect DIY project is a hanging rope shelf. They're cheap, quick to assemble, and look incredibly modern and stylish. They're also customizable, meaning you can make them any size or any color, and you can put whatever you want on them once built. House plants would be really cute, and so would picture frames or any other decorations you want to show off to accent the room.
To make a hanging shelf, you'll only need a few pieces of equipment. You'll need wood (in any size that you want your shelf to be), two hook screws, a drill, and, naturally, some rope (via Burkatron).
Here's how to assemble your hanging shelf
According to Burkatron, you should start building your hanging shelf by drilling holes about 10 millimeters into wood. You'll need four holes total, with two on each end of the wood, and it's important that they're slightly larger than the rope so that it can go through easily. This is where you can easily customize the wood by painting it or keeping it its natural color, and once the wood is ready, you will feed the rope through the four holes.
Burkatron noted that this is the time when you should drill two holes in the wall for your hook screws. These holes should be the same distance apart as the holes in the wood. The pointed end of the hook screw should be facing upward so that you can tie the rope around the closed part of the screw. On each side, you'll have two pieces of rope coming up to one hook, so you'll tie the two ends together around each hook. This is another place you can customize the shelf, as the rope length can be as long or short as you want.
