Why Ariana Grande Hated Her Role In Victorious
As of 2021, Ariana Grande is one of the most successful pop stars in the world. But it was just a little over a decade ago when she was a member of the ensemble cast of "Victorious," the Nickelodeon sitcom for tweens that featured her singing skills alongside with that of Victoria Justice, (via IMDb).
After starring in the Broadway show "Charlotte" when she was just 16 years old, Grande soon landed the role of Cat, a sweet-natured and privileged high school student with oodles of talent and an absolutely silly personality (via Biography).
Grande played the ditzy redhead for as long as the show ran from 2010 to 2013. Then, Grande starred in her own spin-off series with Sam (played by Jeanette McCurdy) from iCarly, titled "Sam & Cat." Despite Cat being the singer's breakout role that led to the music career and fame she has today, Grande hated playing her, according to The Things.
Ariana wanted to separate herself from her Cat character
Ariana Grande told People, "It was a blessing and one of my childhood dreams come true. For a long time I was attached to a character that was nothing like myself. It was a little frustrating."
She spoke further of the dissatisfaction she felt playing Cat with The Hollywood Reporter (via The Things), explaining, "It took me a long time to be brave enough to separate myself and show people how different we actually are." Thankfully, for Grande, she was able to break free of the Cat mold after "Sam & Cat" was canceled after its first season (via People).
While co-star Jennette McCurdy took a break from show biz for a bit when the show ended, Grande focused on her music career, releasing a series of solo albums and performing at concerts throughout the world.
Grande released her sixth studio album, titled "Positions," in February 2021.
