Why Octavia Spencer Apologized To Britney Spears For Her Bold Relationship Advice

It's been an action-packed week for pop culture. The MTV Video Music Awards took place Sunday (September 12), and celebs flocked to the Met Gala Monday (September 13). One of the biggest nights in music and arguably the most influential night in fashion were eclipsed by news the Princess of Pop was engaged. Britney Spears revealed that her long-term boyfriend Sam Asghari proposed and debuted her engagement ring on Instagram (via PopCrush). Asghari followed suit with a photo of the happy couple showing off Spears' new bling (via Instagram).

Fellow celebrities were grilled about Spears' happy news on the red carpet at the VMAs while those who were not in attendance sounded off in the comments section of her since-deleted post. Octavia Spencer made headlines by sharing some advice amongst the well wishes. "Make him sign a prenup," Spencer wrote. Many fans seemed to agree this was sound advice and shared similar recommendations.

Spears seemingly did not address the comment herself. However, Asghari took it in stride. He comically replied with the "100" emoji underneath Spencer's comment.  Then the model who starred in Spears' 2016 "Slumber Party" music video (via YouTube) poked further fun on his Instagram story. "Of course we're getting [an] iron clad prenup to protect my Jeep and shoe collection in case she dumps me one day," he joked (via PopCrush). It doesn't seem like there's bad blood, but Spencer took to Instagram to apologize for her comments nonetheless.

Octavia Spencer made amends for her comment to the happy couple

Even though Sam Asghari didn't seem hurt by Octavia Spencer's recommendation, the actor clearly felt bad about it. Taking to Instagram, she shared a photo of Spears and Asghari and explained the situation. "A few days ago, Sam and Britney announced their engagement and, me being me, I made a joke," she wrote. "My intention was to make them laugh, not cause pain." Spencer revealed she apologized to the pair off the app and said she wanted "to restore just a smidge of happiness they were robbed of." After shouting out Spears' fans, she welcomed hers to show the couple love.

Asghari took to the comments section to formally comment on the situation. "You are very kind to clarify," he wrote. "But I have no hard feelings whatsoever. Jokes and misconceptions come with the territory." He really handled this like a seasoned pro. Spencer, meanwhile, sent him several heart emojis. Could this signify the start of a new friendship? Fingers crossed, because we could totally picture Asghari and Spencer having a good time together.

While Asghari commented on Spencer's post, Spears is not able to at the moment. The "Toxic" siren deactivated her very iconic Instagram account after breaking her engagement news. She explained on Twitter that she was taking a break to celebrate the latest development in her life. Based on her man's response, it's pretty clear that Spencer's joke is water under the bridge.
