Why Cheryl Burke Was Nervous For Season 30 Of DWTS

The historic 30th season of "Dancing with the Stars" has been full of highs and lows for longtime professional dancer Cheryl Burke. Despite enjoying her pairing with popular Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby, the 37-year-old contracted a breakthrough case of COVID-19 during the second week of the competition (via CNN).

Burke said at the time: "The PCR test came back, and it came back positive. I feel so bad for Cody. I feel like I'm letting him down. I just feel like s***, to be quite honest. And it's so overwhelming because it's Sunday, and the show's tomorrow."

While Burke and Rigsby were unable to compete in the ballroom for two weeks, they were able to make it to Week Four and will be dancing on the main stage for Disney Week (via People). Though Burke is happy to return to partnered dancing, the "DWTS" veteran was reluctant to compete this season (via Us Magazine). Here's why.

Cheryl Burke reveals the difficult part of 'Dancing with the Stars'

Before the "Dancing with the Stars" Season 30 premiere, professional dancer Cheryl Burke posted an Instagram video with a surprising confession. Despite competing for 24 seasons, Burke revealed that she was nervous and scared for this season. She wrote in the caption: "Doing this show sober has really made me realize my every insecurity and the amount of pressure I put on myself, which is tough."

Burke revealed that she was two years sober in 2020 (via Us Magazine). She explained that competing on the show triggers her body dysmorphia, and she occasionally battles the desire to just run away from it all.

However, Burke maintains that she is still excited to be part of the show. "That being said, I love my partner and love all of you so it's going to be a great night," she wrote. "Thanks for always supporting and get those voting fingers ready for tonight!"

Burke's honesty was met with lots of love from her fans and costars. Fellow "DWTS" professional Gleb Savchenko commented on the post: "Babe you are the best! Love you & good luck tonight!"

Though Season 30 had a rocky start for Burke, her track record indicates that she'll do great things moving forward.
