Does Joe Biden Really Have A Potty Mouth?

When we hear President Joe Biden speak in public, we see someone who is, for the most part, measured and careful with his words. Part of this could be due to the fact that Biden has a stutter, and part of this could be because swearing isn't exactly presidential. But as former president Barack Obama once admitted, "I curse more than I should, and I find myself cursing more in this office than I had in my previous life," (via Vanity Fair) it should come as no surprise that the commander-in-chief is much, much saltier than he looks.

Biden's aides recently revealed to Politico that the president has been known to turn the air blue from time to time, and as an aide put it, "When he gets going he definitely gets going." It appears he has go-to phrases too, like "F*** them," "What the f*** are we doing?" "Why the f*** isn't this happening?" "bulls***," "dammit," as well as the one-size-fits-all f-bomb. And when he wants aides to clarify a matter, he reportedly warns them not to "bullsh** a bulls****er."

It needs to be said that the president doesn't curse all the time. "When he cusses around women, it is always, and I mean always, followed by an immediate apology," one aide told Politico. A former aide said he doesn't use the f-word as a verb, because the president is "way too prudish for that."

Vice President Kamala Harris can get salty too and she's been known to let loose with a "motherf***ahhhhhh."

Some people on Twitter weren't surprised by Biden's cursing

The reveal that President Joe Biden has a relatable way of expressing himself appears to have further endeared him to his fans. "Doesn't sound at all sleepy to me! Go Joe," said one on Twitter. Another remarked, "I use the f word all the time. I don't know why Biden using the f word is a big deal. If I had to deal w/ [Joe] Manchin and GOP, the f word is the most applicable." A third chimed in, saying, "Seriously? With everything he's had to deal with, I'd be shocked if he hadn't used profanity."

Anyone who has followed Biden from his days as vice president shouldn't be surprised by the tidbit. Some of Biden's more colorful comments (accidentally) made in public, include the time when the Affordable Care Act was being signed in 2010, which Biden described as "a big [bleeping] deal," and the time in 2012 when he promised Pennsylvania firefighters that they would get an invite to the White House, and he said, "He's going to call you, no bullsh**" (via Politico).

And before anyone can accuse Biden of being mentally lazy, science actually shows that the use of profanity is a sign of honesty and intelligence. As academic Timothy Jay put it, "it's just more efficient to say, 'F*** you,' than it is to hit somebody," (via Discover).
