The Queen Just Cancelled Plans To Attend This Important World Event

In the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's schedule changes and an overnight stay in King Edward VII's Hospital in London last week, the 95-year-old monarch canceled another important item on her calendar. According to BBC News, Queen Elizabeth will not attend the COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow, Scotland, in person. Doctors advised her to rest after her apparent health concerns. Instead, delegates at the meeting will receive the sovereign's pre-recorded remarks. The Daily Mail reported that United States President Joe Biden is among the 120 countries represented by world leaders at the Scottish Event Campus.

Last week, Queen Elizabeth canceled an appearance in Northern Ireland and spent time getting her health checked out at the hospital (via BBC News). At that time, the palace released a statement that said she "reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days." Thankfully, her health permitted her to resume her public engagements to an extent. She used video conferencing to meet with ambassadors, and Buckingham Palace released photos of her smiling while greeting representatives of South Korea and Switzerland.

Here's how the palace announced Queen Elizabeth's COP26 cancellation

According to a statement, "Following advice to rest, The Queen has been undertaking light duties at Windsor Castle. Her Majesty has regretfully decided that she will no longer travel to Glasgow to attend the evening reception of Cop26 on Monday, 1st November. Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the reception but will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message" (via the Daily Mail).

The news of the queen's recent cancellations comes two weeks after CNN reported that she began using a walking stick when she attended a service at Westminster Abbey. Reportedly she used the aid to help with her comfort. According to Daily Mail, Queen Elizabeth also missed her weekly services at Windsor's All Saints Chapel in Windsor last Sunday. Despite her apparent health issues, she traveled about 1,000 miles in October. By all reports, she remains in good spirits as she continues to rest after her overnight health tests last week.
