The Untold Truth Of Eminem's Dating Life

For someone who has been famous since his first major-label album was released in 1999, it's surprisingly difficult to find information about the love life of Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem. Of course, the rapper is known for being ultra-private, and numerous publications have pointed out that it can be tough to find out pretty much anything about him.

E! News has also reported that some of Eminem's alleged feuds with other artists might have been staged, which sheds an interesting light on whether or not he's really been involved with the women he says he's dated. However, while the full extent of his love life is unclear, the relationships we do know about have all endured pretty notorious ups and downs.

From ex-wife Kimberly Ann Scott to songstress Mariah Carey (Did they? Did they not?) to the late Brittany Murphy, here's a look at the women Eminem has been involved with ... or at least the ones he wants us know about.

Eminem's most famous relationship was with his ex-wife, Kimberly Scott

Eminem met his ex-wife Kimberly Ann Scott when he was 15 years old and she was only 13 years old. Scott once told ABC that the two were immediately close in a way that was beyond protective. As she said, "If he got kicked out, then I would walk the streets with him until he found a place to live, or if I got kicked out, he was always there for me. It was just a close connection."

Unfortunately, things got bad for the couple when Eminem's career began to take off. Though they married, divorced, and married again, both reportedly had affairs with other people, with Scott citing Eminem's extended time away from home and subsequent rumored infidelity as a huge source of strain. In 2000, Eminem released a song called "Kim" in which he imagines killing her, and though he clarified that the lyrics were not meant to be taken to heart, the song was still tough for Scott to hear.

As Scott told ABC, the embarrassment was nearly impossible to swallow. She explained, "This is supposed to be a man that loves me, and is supposed to protect me ... from being hurt, and here he is disrespecting me in the worst way possible in front of millions of people, and in front of our kids, my family, my friends." The two ultimately called quits on their marriage for good in 2006 (via Rolling Stone).

Eminem might have dated adult entertainment star Gina Lynn

Eminem shot the music video for his song "Superman" in 2003 alongside adult entertainment star Gina Lynn. Entertainment Weekly revealed that Eminem saw Lynn when she had a bit part in "Analyze That" and decided to cast her in the video. At the beginning of the video, Lynn and Eminem are filmed interacting in a hallway before he brings her into his hotel room, but the rapper promptly kicks Lynn out only moments after inviting her in. Throughout the video, the pair engage in behavior that many viewers might find rough, but it seems they ended things on a relatively positive note.

Starring in the video together kicked off a series of rumors that the two took their on-set actions off set as well (per The Talko). What is more clear is that Eminem was between marriages with ex-wife Kimberly Scott when he worked with Lynn (per HuffPost), so anything was possible between the two.

Eminem says he and Mariah Carey dated, but she denies it

It might surprise some, but Eminem and Mariah Carey shared a brief but notable affair in the early 2000s ... or at least they did if you believe Eminem's side of the story. Per In Touch Weekly, the pair have been locked in a public feud ever since, with both having claimed different versions of what did (or didn't) happen between them in songs. In 2009, Carey released a single called "Obsessed," which heavily implied Eminem was nothing more than another guy who was hung up on her. Eminem didn't take too kindly to that suggestion, and ended up releasing his own lyrics that suggested a lot happened between them.

Things reportedly began in 2001, when Carey reached out to see if Eminem wanted to collaborate on her upcoming album. Eminem's 2002 song "Superman" name drops Carey twice, and when Rolling Stone later asked if the two had been an item, the rapper replied, "There's truth to that. But on the whole personal level, I'm not really feeling it. I just don't like her as a person." Carey countered this claim directly, noting that while the two had spent time together professionally, nothing physical happened. She said, "But in terms of me having an intimate relationship? With men, I can name them all on one hand, and he's not one of them" (via In Touch Weekly).

Eminem and Brittany Murphy hooked up after starring in 8 Mile

Brittany Murphy and Eminem co-starred in "8 Mile" together in 2002. Their characters shared quite a few intense scenes together that led a lot of people to wonder if they ever dated in real life. It turns out they did, but things didn't work out in the end. While Eminem never completely confirmed whether or not he and Murphy shared a romance, she was only too happy to own the claim.

While speaking to David Letterman, Murphy seemingly confirmed that the rumors surrounding her relationship status with Eminem were true, and that the relationship was over. She also told MTV that Eminem's work ethic was unmatched, saying, "Marshall is ... he really ... he's one of the most funny, honest, professional, hard-working actors I've ever worked with, if not the most."

After Murphy's untimely death in 2010, Eminem opened up a little more about what they shared. He told VIBE that her death was "crazy because at one point we were very close and she was a really good person."

Eminem and Nicki Minaj have enjoyed keeping fans guessing

Eminem and Nicki Minaj have been playing with fans' hearts ever since they collaborated on 2010's "Roman's Revenge." Minaj later told MTV News that the song came about after she suggested a collaboration with the fellow rapper and the two found a song that they both liked. Between 2011 and 2013 they each took turns taking jabs at one another in their songs, but they both seemed to be in on the joke. In 2016 Minaj revealed the process of putting "Roman's Revenge" together, which included sending lines back and forth until they were both happy (via Billboard).

In 2018, Minaj was asked by a fan on Twitter if she and Eminem were an item and she said yes, though she later clarified she was joking. Not to be outdone, Eminem asked a crowd in Boston if they thought he should date Minaj. When they answered in the affirmative, he admitted, "Nicki, if you get this message, just text me later, we'll talk about it" (via NME).
