Why Tori Spelling's Holiday Card Has The Internet Talking

It's that time of year again: Houses are alit in red and green, chocolate Santas and stocking stuffers fill the drugstore shelves, and cards start arriving in the mailbox. Even in this digital age, greeting cards are still a huge industry, with some 1.6 billion sent for Christmas alone, according to the Greeting Card Association (via The Atlantic). Customized family photo Christmas cards are increasingly popular as well — even among celebs.

Take, for instance, Tori Spelling. The "Beverly Hills, 90210" star just shared her holiday 2021 card with her Instagram followers. Created through SimplytoImpress.com, the photo card features a happy family pose and the greeting, "Happy Holidays with love from our farm to your home! Tori & Family." Spelling wrote in her caption, "It's that time again. And it's a winter wonderland at my house!" The actress went on to praise the company for making it easy to design and order her card (because, you know, the whole sponsored post business). "This is a card our friends and family will ❤️ opening and putting on display," she raved.

And they surely will — but some of her fans are also pointing out a very telling detail in her photo. The pic shows Spelling and her five children posing in their barnyard with their menagerie of two goats, a pig, and a chicken — but no sign of her husband, Dean McDermott. For a post that includes the hashtag #familyiseverything, the omission seemed glaring.

Tori Spelling's fans think her photo was no mistake

Tori Spelling's friends Beverley Mitchell and Kellie Martin gave their thumbs up to her holiday card — "Cute!" was Mitchell's reaction — as did many of her fans. "Such a cute and fun holiday photo," was one reaction. "Beautiful family, Tori!" But other, nosier fans wondered why husband Dean McDermott was absent. She has since taken down all the comments on the topic, but Us Weekly notes that one fan said, "So she def split from Dean! Wow!"

Rumors of trouble within the marriage have been circulating for months. On a podcast, Spelling admitted that she and McDermott had been sleeping in separate beds, but blamed it on the kids' joining her at night while he was off on a movie shoot (via Us Weekly). Her social media feed hasn't included any photos of her husband for months. Most recently, she posted another photo of herself and the children at a holiday store to Instagram — again not revealing whether their holiday plans will include their dad. (She did, however, acknowledge that they celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas.)

McDermott has been equally silent on the issue, although his Instagram bio does still say, "Married to the love of my life @ToriSpelling."
