What You Didn't Know About Meryl Streep And 50 Cent's Surprising Friendship
Most people can trace their friendships — both the temporary and life-long ones — to their time in school, a particular place of work, or other places that bring people of like minds together.
Going by that logic, celebrities being friends with other celebrities sounds like a no-brainer, something that kinda makes perfect sense, particularly celebs that are into the same things like entertainment, fashion, or even sports. No one would raise an eyebrow to find that members of the cast of '90s and early 2000s show, "Friends," are all life-long friends (via Screen Rant), nor does it sound out of place to hear that Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts are besties who really, genuinely adore each other. There is also the Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz's friendship, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio as well as Sofía Vergara and Reese Witherspoon (via Elle).
While it may be true that celebrities make friends with other celebrities, some of those friendships can sometimes be very ... unlikely. This is the type you see or hear about, and you're completely taken aback at how random it is. Take Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart's fascinating friendship as an example, Or the one between Courtney Cox and Ed Sheeran, as well as the odd one between Jessica Williams and J.K. Rowling (via Distractify). And then there's rapper 50 Cent and Meryl Streep ...
Meryl Streep and 50 Cent's friendship was a viral sensation in 2014
When Meryl Streep and 50 Cent were pictured together courtside at a New York Knicks game in 2014, the internet could not seem to get enough (via Glamour). Photos of them laughing together were the most heartwarming yet odd things to turn up on the internet. This is the type of thing you never thought you'd see, but you were glad you found.
Speaking of that occasion, which was the first time they met, 50 Cent said he was glad to help the iconic actress find her way when he discovered that it was her first-ever at a live basketball game and she had no clue what to do or where to sit. "As soon as I noticed she didn't know what was going on, I was like 'Hey, don't worry just come with me. This is gonna be cool,'" the rapper recalled on Jimmy Kimmel Live (via MTV News).
While it's not clear if the pair has ever met up again or if they are still as chummy as they looked on that particular occasion seven years ago, 50 Cent has recounted that story on more than one occasion.
The rapper and actor himself, who is a well-recognized entertainment figure, confessed in 2016 to being awestruck in Streep's presence, admitting on The Rachael Ray Show that, "I sat next to Meryl Streep. And I was like, 'I'm regular,'" he joked. "I felt like I was normal again."
