Inside Chris Cuomo's Relationship With Cristina Greeven Cuomo

The pandemic hasn't been a time when many people can say they've flourished, but for a brief time, Chris Cuomo was among the few figures who did. The CNN anchor, who has since been let go from his hosting position on the network, attracted viewers with his raw, real reporting on the pandemic, including how it affected his own family (via The Guardian).

Chris was already a familiar face to those familiar with New York State politics. He is the son of Matilda Raffa Cuomo and late New York governor Mario Cuomo. Born in Queens, New York, he is the youngest of the couple's five children. His older brother is disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and his sisters are Maria, Margaret, and Madeline (per People). He came into his own in his journalism career, but was encouraged by his family to pursue law. It wouldn't be long before he met a woman with a lesser known background but a just as impressive a future ahead of her.

Cristina Greeven Cuomo had her own career in media when she met her future husband. The New York native was born to be a writer and started on the career path after graduating from Cornell University (per Prevention). After the two met in the late 1990s, no one could have predicted the twists and turns that story would take. Here's a look inside Chris Cuomo's relationship with Cristina Greeven Cuomo.

Though they both work in media, they have very different jobs

Cristina Greeven Cuomo was always interested in writing. After graduating Cornell, she worked a number of media jobs, including as an editor at Modern Luxury's Manhattan (per the New York Post). When that gig came to an end, Cristina decided to strike out on her own and start Hamptons Purist. "Purist was born out of a need to capture this state of mind. Once you have the right lens through which to view life, everything becomes clear," she wrote on the magazine's website. "And that's what Purist aspires to be — mindful about things that matter."

While his wife's focus is more on a modern lifestyle, Chris Cuomo is a student of old-fashioned broadcast journalism. He began his career in the field bouncing around networks before settling at ABC's "Good Morning America" as a news anchor from September 2006 to December 2009 (per ABC News). He also worked on a number of other projects at ABC before making the move to CNN in 2013 (per TMZ).

Chris and Cristina got married in 2001

Chris Cuomo and Cristina Greeven Cuomo first met in 1998 when they crossed paths at an art opening (per Elle). The two fell for each other, with Cristina saying she was drawn to Chris' sense of service. "[The Cuomos] are all very driven and, you know, doing things that really go above and beyond community service," she told the outlet. "So I met Chris and instantly was enamored with his whole civic mindedness."

Chris and Cristina tied the knot on November 24, 2001, as reported by the New York Daily News. They exchanged vows at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Southampton. Cristina Cuomo was famously half an hour late for the ceremony. "If she doesn't show up," Chris' father, Mario, told the press, "you'll really have a great story."

Family members gushed over the couple, with brother Andrew Cuomo saying, "Cristina is a special lady and a great addition to our family." Mario was also excited for the union, saying, "If this match between Chris and Cristina is not made in heaven, it's certainly made in the vicinity near heaven. They are both bright, sincere and intelligent people."

The couple has run in some swanky circles throughout the years

Between their respective media careers and Chris Cuomo's political ties, it's safe to say the Cuomos have a lot of connections in a lot of different places. They count a number of celebrities among their friends and acquaintances.

Cristina Greeven Cuomo has worked closely with a number of famous figures due to her philanthropy work and her job at Purist. Some of those figures include Scarlett Johansson, Tory Burch, and Oprah Winfrey (per Prevention). She was even connected enough to make a cameo as herself on "Gossip Girl" in 2008 (per IMDb).

Then, of course, there are Chris' friends. He grew up in affluent circles, having graduated from Yale and Fordham (per Biography). He was friendly with his fellow CNN anchors Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon (per LGBTQ Nation) and with actors Gregg Bello and Robert Downey Jr. (per the Daily Mail).

The Cuomos are parents of three

Chris Cuomo and Cristina Greeven Cuomo have grown into a beautiful family of five over the years. Their oldest daughter, Bella Cuomo, was born in 2003. Before recent controversy surrounding the family, Bella was coming into her own on TikTok. The teen's social media accounts have since gone private.

Their second child, Mario Cuomo –named after Chris' late father — was born in 2006 (per Distractify) and is a black belt in karate. Impressive!

In 2009, Chris announced that he and Cristina were expecting their third child on "Good Morning America." "It's a real blessing ... we're very lucky," he told viewers (per ABC News). "It's the best thing in the world. Once again [Cristina is] responsible for the best thing in my life." Carolina Regina Cuomo, lovingly referred to by her parents as "Cha-Cha," was born on February 1, 2010 (per The U.S. Sun). The tween currently trains as a gymnast when she's not busy in school.

COVID-19 changed their family life

Chris Cuomo and Cristina Greeven Cuomo's lives were thrown for a loop at the beginning of the pandemic. Chris was the first member of the family to test positive for the virus, which he shared with fans in a Twitter statement on March 31, 2020. "I have been exposed to people in recent days who have subsequently tested positive and I had fever, chills, and shortness of breath," he wrote. "I just hope I didn't give it to the kids and Cristina. That would make me feel worse than this illness!"

Not only did he have a tougher go of the virus in subsequent days, but he did pass it to his family. Cristina shared that she started to develop symptoms 18 days after her husband was diagnosed. "I just thought, 'You know what, I'm so rundown. I'm not getting enough sleep, I'm feeling a lot of stress from caregiving and managing the kids and my own business that it just caught up with me,'" she shared with Entertainment Tonight. "And the next morning I woke up without a sense of smell or taste — and I have a very strong sense of smell, so for me not to smell, you know, it felt like the world was falling apart around me."

Shortly thereafter, son Mario began developing symptoms. Cristina revealed his diagnosis on Earth Day 2020. Thankfully, his symptoms relented after about two weeks (via E! News).

They live in a gorgeous Hamptons home

Viewers got some peeks at Chris Cuomo and Cristina Greeven Cuomo's Hamptons house when the then-CNN anchor helmed his nightly news show from home as he battled COVID-19 (per Fox News). He shared his experience battling the virus while quarantining in the home's basement, which sadly did not keep the virus from spreading to Cristina and son Mario.

The Hamptons getaway was the work of architect Stephen Rossetti and decorator Emma Pilkington (per Elle Decor). The bright, airy home is approximately 3,000 square feet with five bedrooms and four bathrooms, as a listing of the home in 2019 revealed (via Dirt). (Though the home was listed for sale in 2019, it appears the Cuomos remain owners.)

That's not the only home the Cuomos live in, however. As of early 2011, they also have a high-floor seven-room corner apartment in a 1920s cooperative apartment house on Park Avenue. It's unclear if this is the same apartment where Chris was reprimanded for not following masking protocols in 2020 (per New York Post).

2021 was a time of stress for Chris Cuomo's relationship with Cristina Greeven Cuomo

Chris Cuomo and Cristina Greeven Cuomo had a difficult year in 2021. First, Chris lost his job at CNN after an investigation found that he violated journalistic ethics while helping his brother, Andrew Cuomo, battle sexual misconduct allegations that would lead him to resign as the governor of New York (per The Guardian). Chris responded to the firing by tweeting a statement. "This is not how I want my time at CNN to end but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother," he wrote. "So let me now say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at 'Cuomo Prime Time' and the work we did ... I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work." He also resigned from his Sirius XM radio show.

Just a day later, allegations of sexual harassment against Chris came to light. Debra Katz represents an anonymous woman who was a colleague of Chris' during his time at ABC and claimed he sexually harassed her. "My client came forward at this time because she felt in sharing her story and related documentation, she could help protect other women," she said in a statement (per NPR).

Of course, this was all after the controversy Cristina faced for promoting bleach baths in 2020. Doctors advise against taking bleach baths, as they can be very dangerous and do not actually treat the virus (via CBS News).

They haven't commented on the speculation surrounding their marriage

There's been a lot of speculation on the toll the controversy at CNN may be taking on the Chris Cuomo's relationship with Cristina Greeven Cuomo. After all, Chris said in a tweet about his CNN and Sirius XM radio show exits, "While I have a thick skin, I also have a family, for whom the past week has been extraordinarily difficult."

Besides his brief statement, it's unclear how the family's dealing with the situation, with Cristina Greeven Cuomo being entirely silent since the drama around her husband began.

Rumors even predated the drama, with Page Six taking note that Cristina attended a party in their Sag Harbor social circle without her husband in tow. In December 2021, she was spotted around the Hamptons, though not with husband Chris (per the Daily Mail). Neither Chris nor Cristina have commented on the speculation around their marriage, as of this writing.
