Riko Shibata And Nicolas Cage Share Happy Family News

In February 2021, Hollywood star Nicolas Cage and Riko Shibata tied the knot during an intimate Las Vegas wedding ceremony. According to People, Cage said at the time, "It's true, and we are very happy," while a rep for the "National Treasure" actor revealed that the ceremony was a "very small and intimate wedding at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas."

As Vanity Fair reported, the date of the 2021 wedding, February 16th, was chosen to commemorate Cage's late father's birthday. Cage and Shibata were first introduced through mutual friends in Shiga, Japan back in 2020. In July 2021, the couple appeared on the red carpet together for the very first time at the premiere of Cage's movie "Pig." In October that same year, Cage and Shibata also appeared on the cover of Flaunt magazine together.

Now, almost a year after walking down the aisle, the couple have announced some very happy family news.

Nicolas Cage and Riko Shibata got engaged in an unusual way

On January 6th, 2022, it was announced that Nicolas Cage and Riko Shibata are expecting their first baby together. Speaking exclusively to People, a representative for the couple confirmed that the "parents-to-be are elated!" This will become Cage's third child, as the actor is already a father to his two sons, 16-year-old Kal-El and 31-year-old Weston, from past relationships.

As mentioned, the happy news arrives almost a year after Cage and Shibata tied the knot in Febraury 2021. Speaking on his brother Marc Coppola's radio show in August 2020, the actor revealed the unusual way he proposed to his now-wife (via Hollywood Life). "We're really happy together and we're really excited to spend that time together so I finally just said 'Look, I wanna marry you' and we got engaged on FaceTime," Cage revealed.

"I got her a black diamond engagement ring. Her favorite color is black so she wanted the black gold, and the black diamond. I customized and personalized it and I actually sent it to her [through] FedEx," he added.
