The Surprising Connection Between How I Met Your Father And How I Met Your Mother

"How I Met Your Mother" is among the greatest half hour comedies to hit network television over the last two decades. In some ways, it's a successor to "Friends," and the hype surrounding the series continues to build with a new series with a very similar name: "How I Met Your Father." Sadly, we've lost some "How I Met Your Mother" actors over time, which is always a heartbreaking blow to fans, but the series itself lives on. Running from 2005 to 2014, "How I Met Your Mother" starred Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alyson Hannigan (via IMDb).

Now, "How I Met Your Father" is Hilary Duff's big new job, and it's looking as though she's leading the franchise in a fun direction. Some "How I Met Your Mother" scenes crossed some lines at points, but fans had fun with the show. Now Duff's take on the series will stick true to the OG in many ways while also being completely unique. In fact, NPR noted that the new series tries to fix the prior's mistakes. While the series is widely beloved, it wasn't without its critics, both culturally and for its writing.

Now, too, it's been revealed how these two series connect exactly.

Viewers can expect to see a familiar location in HIMYF

"How I Met Your Father" premiered on Hulu on January 18, per NPR, starting the year off with a fresh dose of classic comedy, and now we know how this series connects to "How I Met Your Mother." Ahead of the premiere, fans were unclear how the series would directly connect, if at all, outside of understanding that the series was generally a sequel series. According to E! News, however, the premiere revealed a shocking connection.

As it turns out, one of the series' central locations is the same apartment that Ted Mosby (portrayed by Josh Radnor) lived in in "How I Met Your Mother." The 4D unit has become beloved by fans who adored all of the memories made in it, so this new series undoubtedly hopes to capture that same charm and build upon what the prior series established. "How I Met Your Father" sees new characters Jesse and Sid, portrayed by Chris Lowell and Suraj Sharma, respectively, living in the apartment.

What's more, the first episode of "How I Met Your Father" paid tribute to Bob Saget, the prior series' narrator, by including a title card at the end of the episode in his honor (via TVLine). "I'm endlessly grateful that 'HIMYM' brought Bob Saget into my life," Radnor said in a statement. "I'll hear his voice in my head for the rest of my days."

So, how do you feel about the inclusion of apartment unit 4D in "How I Met You Father," and will you be tuning in as the season unfolds?
