The Messiest Love Quadrangles On The Bold And The Beautiful

Love triangles often seem to be the bread and butter of soap operas. One person is torn between two people, and sometimes, it feels like an impossible choice. Other times, it seems obvious who a character should be with. When you add a fourth person into the equation and create a love quadrangle, things become infinitely more complicated as there seems to be too many sympathetic characters in one romantic story. Of course, the fourth side of the quadrangle might not be a good guy at all and you just want him or her to be gone. It often seems that no soap does this trope better than "The Bold and the Beautiful."

Over the last decade, it seems that love quadrangles have dominated "The Bold and the Beautiful," which celebrates it's 35th anniversary in March 2022 (via The Wrap). The soap even draws inspiration for new quadrangles from elements of old ones, as well as remembering one from the not-so-distant past. Take a look at some of the messiest quads on "The Bold and the Beautiful" now and learn how they tie in to the show's past.

The Brooke/Ridge/Taylor/Deacon quadrangle

The messy romantic entanglements of the characters in this 2022 quadrangle go back decades, as the characters of Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Ridge Forrester (first played by Ronn Moss, now Thorsten Kaye) go back to day one when college student Brooke met fashion house heir Ridge at a party where she was working as a catering server. Since then, Brooke and Ridge haven't been able to stay out of one another's lives no matter how many other people they have been with in between.

As 2021 drew to a close, Brooke and Ridge thought their latest shot at marriage was actually going to work until two people from their past arrived back in the fictional version of LA. Ridge's ex-wife, Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen), made a comeback to visit her and Ridge's adult children, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson), and confessed she still loved Ridge. As for Brooke, her ex-lover Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) showed up wanting to grow closer to their grown daughter, Hope Spencer (Annika Noelle).

Things went wrong on New Year's Eve when Ridge had to leave town for work and crazy interloper Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) made sure Brooke, an alcoholic, drank champagne and not sparkling cider. Brooke got drunk, kissed Deacon, lied about it for weeks, and when Ridge found out, he left her and headed straight to Taylor. That made Deacon feel he finally had a chance with Brooke. Messy, messy, indeed.

The burgeoning Steffy/Liam/Hope/Finn quadrangle

Although this story seemed to stop in its tracks when Brooke and Ridge's adult children decided to get involved in their love lives, it will likely get picked up again when Brooke and Deacon's kiss on New Year's Eve plot finally resolves itself. When we left off in late 2021, Steffy Forrester had commanded that her new husband John "Finn" Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) not see his newly-discovered biological mother, Sheila Carter, because Steffy knew Sheila was dangerous (via Soaps.com).

At the same time, Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) demanded that his wife, Hope, not spend time with her father, Deacon, because of his shady past. After all, he had just spent the last few years behind bars. However, Hope wanted to know Deacon and Finn wanted to know Sheila, so Hope and Finn started spending a lot of time together lamenting how their spouses didn't understand their situation. In addition, Liam and Steffy, two people who had been married to one another several times before and share a child, started spending more time together lamenting how their spouses were about to make big mistakes. When they all learn how Sheila affected Brooke and Ridge's marriage, this quad is bound to get even messier.

The Brooke/Ridge/Bill/Katie quadrangle

As "The Bold and the Beautiful" turns 35, Brooke Logan remembers all of her past loves and how they all fit into her life with Ridge. One of those past loves is Bill Spencer (Don Diamont), who was married to Brooke's sister Katie Logan (Heather Tom) when Bill and Brooke began an affair. Granted, Katie, who was suffering from postpartum depression and convinced she would die from a heart condition, is the one who pushed them together. When she got help for her depression, though, she changed her mind but it was too late.

Brooke and Bill were drawn to one another and couldn't seem to stay away. Even when Ridge and Brooke planned to try again, Brooke couldn't resist Bill and ended up marrying him for a brief time when she thought she couldn't have Ridge. That draw was still there a few years later when Ridge and Brooke, who were married again, planned to renew their wedding vows. In a moment of weakness, Brooke kissed Bill one night and the kiss was revealed at the vow renewal. Katie, who had taken Bill back, dumped him again, but Brooke and Ridge managed to reconcile, only to let Deacon get in their way. As for Katie, she has yet to take Bill back as of this writing. What a mess between two sisters.
