What Is Khris Franklin From Cheer Doing Now?

Season 2 of the Netflix hit series "Cheer" welcomed some familiar faces, including the Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) cheer coach Khris Franklin. In Season 1, Franklin was the head coach of the team, but as Season 2 began, we saw Franklin take a back seat, becoming the assistant coach to newcomer Vontae Johnson (via Gossip Next Door).

The new season also showed us a lot more of the TVCC team, giving us insight into Franklin's cheerleading career and personal life. For Franklin, he was happy that he and his team were getting more screen time this season. "It was one of those things where I was glad our kids could have the same opportunities that the school down the street had," Franklin told PopCulture.com in 2022. "I was hoping that it would show our program in a good light and show what we're about. Both programs are obviously very successful, but I think we have different things to offer. So I was excited for the kids, and for the college and all, in general."

And while the team definitely got recognition — fans cheered them on as they came in first place at the 2021 Daytona Championship — Franklin himself also became a fan favorite.

Khris Franklin is still cheer royalty

According to The Cinemaholic, Khris Franklin stepped down from his head coaching job in 2017, returning to join his former student and newly appointed head coach, Vontae Johnson, and help the team finally win it all at the Daytona competition as the assistant coach.

Since filming ended, Franklin has made one big change to his career: He is now back to his original title, becoming co-head coach of the Trinity Valley Community College cheer team. Otherwise, the "Cheer" star has kept his life as simple as we saw it on the show. During a 2022 interview with Vulture, Franklin reveals that he is still single and nowhere near having a family, despite what fans, and fellow head coach Johnson, want for him. "My poor mother has just been wanting grandkids forever, and she's getting the big zero from me right now," he said. "So don't get her hopes up."

He is looking to the future

While Khris Franklin may still not see marriage or kids in his near future, he is, however, considering entering the world of social media. After the PR person at TVCC suggested getting an Instagram account, he enlisted his younger sisters to teach him how to use it. "So far, they've been great," Franklin told Vulture about his sisters showing him the ropes. "They gave me a little tutorial yesterday. Today the goal is to try to figure out how to reply to messages on Instagram."

There have been no announcements yet about a Season 3, but according to Marie Claire, many think it could be coming out late 2022 or early 2023. According to Newsweek, Navarro has 14 championship titles while TVCC holds 12. Fans can only hope that Netflix catches the two teams working towards the 2022 Daytona championship title — a feat that is sure to be just as captivating, if not more so, than years past.
