The Met Gala Invite List Proves The Kardashians Are More Famous Than Ever

All is right in the fashion world once more. The Met Gala is returning tonight to its rightful place on the first Monday of May after COVID-19 canceled the 2020 Gala and pushed the 2021 Gala back to September of that year (via Vogue).

The event, despite being one of fashion's biggest nights, was originally started as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, according to Vogue. The museum reportedly brings in over eight figures in donations because of the Met Gala. Last year, even with a guest list reduced from the typical 600 down to 400, the Gala still raised $16.4 million, per The Associated Press.

Anna Wintour, Vogue's editor-in-chief, held the first event in 1995 and has been in charge of managing every detail ever since. This includes everything from the dress code to the guest list (per Vogue). While the gala's theme and dress code are revealed ahead of time, the guest list is always kept top secret until the night before the event. According to Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, who worked directly with Wintour at Vogue for over a decade, The Met Gala guest list is usually a good way of seeing who's in and who's out for the Vogue editor (via Page Six).

Based on the reported guest list for the 2022 Met Gala, the Kardashian women and their inner circle are very much in.

All of The Kardashian women will be at the Met Gala for the first time

If Anna Wintour doesn't want you at the Met Gala, you won't be there. Stephanie Winston Wolkoff told Amy Odell in her book "Anna: The Biography," that Wintour is "militant in her planning of the ball," and that "Every guest has a prearranged arrival time, and Wintour's people know what cars they'll arrive in, if they've left the house, what they'll be wearing, and if they've broken a zipper along the way that needs to be fixed," (via Page Six).

As Vogue reports, the 2022 Met Gala theme is "In America: An Anthology in Fashion," which they explain "is built around the tenets of American style, and celebrates unsung heroes of US design." Additionally, Glamour reported that the invitations to the Gala specified that attire should be inspired by the gilded age of New York and all of its golden glamour.

Prior to 2019, none of the Kardashians had been invited to the Met Gala despite the family's growing celebrity power over the years. Wintour's reported belief that the family was "tacky" kept them from the guest list, per Page Six. This year, though, the Kardashian women — including Kourtney, who will be making her Met Gala debut — will be glammed up and gracing the 2022 Met Gala red carpet. The outlet reports that Khloé, Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, and Kendall Jenner will be in attendance, as well as Kourtney's fiancé, Travis Barker.

Kim Kardashian might be wearing this iconic Marilyn Monroe dress to the 2022 Met Gala

Fashion and Kardashian fans alike have been speculating about the outfits the women will be wearing to the big event. Instead of exotic and eccentric costumes, we may see the Kardashian women — and other Met Gala guests — dressed more subdued than usual.

Last year at the 2021 Met Gala, Kim Kardashian raised eyebrows with her head-to-toe, all-black Balenciaga ensemble, per Vogue. This year, though, we might see Kim wearing vintage Marilyn Monroe. The 41-year-old told Access Hollywood last month that, while she knew what she wanted to wear, she was worried the dress wouldn't fit. "I think it will be up to the last minute," Kim explained. "Because it can't be tailored, so I have to fit into it, like, exactly."

Kim's cryptic interview isn't the only clue fans have discovered regarding what she'll be wearing to this year's event. According to The Sun, Kim was spotted with her boyfriend, Pete Davidson, at the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum in Orlando, Florida. The museum currently owns the dress Monroe wore to sing "Happy Birthday" to former President John F. Kennedy.

Kim's dress isn't the only unconfirmed detail, though. We're all dying to know if Davidson will be her date to the 2022 Met Gala. During the Access Hollywood interview, Kim didn't confirm who her date would be, but the couple made their red carpet debut at the White House Correspondents Dinner, so anything is possible.
