General Hospital Relationship Timeline: Maxie And Spinelli

Whenever Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) of "General Hospital" needs some sort of help, Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), known to most as just Spinelli, is the man who typically rides to her rescue.

Maxie may not always want his help, but there's a connection between these two characters that goes further than the child they share together, little Georgie Spinelli (via Soaps In Depth). Maxie and Spinelli may not have a grand love story like most memorable soap couples, but they were popular enough to earn the Twitter name "Spixie" during their on-and-off relationship.

Even all these years later, there are fans who still want to see Maxie and Spinelli together since neither character is officially attached to anyone. As Soap Hub points out, they are older and wiser now than they were in 2009, when they had a fantastic wedding — but never actually married. What didn't work out then might work out in 2022 between two characters who never fail to entertain.

Maxie and Spinelli investigated a horrific crime

In 2007, Maxie Jones' life changed forever when her beloved younger sister, Georgie Jones (Lindze Leatherman), was killed, and Damian Spinelli found her lifeless body (via Soap Central).

Maxie and Spinelli teamed up to find her sister's killer, and, when they solved the crime, Spinelli found himself falling in love with Maxie. However, she wanted to remain just friends, much to his chagrin. Eventually, Maxie had to admit she was in love with Spinelli, and he proposed (via Soaps In Depth).

Unfortunately, Maxie got cold feet the morning of the wedding after waking from a nightmare in which her entire life went wrong and she was left with three screaming children (with more to come), according to Soaps.com

That was enough for her to tell Spinelli that she couldn't marry him, so he had a solution. They would still have their big wedding but wouldn't make things official until Maxie was truly ready. Maxie told him she loved him even more for that, but that real wedding never came to fruition.

They became parents

After Maxie Jones and Damian Spinelli had a memorable wedding in which they didn't actually marry, Maxie ended up sleeping with crazed artist Robert Frank, played by James Franco, who eventually came to be known as a more sane Franco Baldwin (played by Roger Howarth), according to Soaps In Depth.

She was also accused of murder; spent some time in prison; and married another man, who also ended up in prison. When Maxie got out, she realized she still wanted Spinelli, but he refused to break up with his new girlfriend, Ellie Trout (Emily Wilson).

That's when Maxie decided she would be a surrogate for her friends Lulu Falconeri (then played by Julie Marie Berman) and Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), per Soap Central. However, when she miscarried the baby, she didn't have the heart to tell them the truth. Then, when she became pregnant after a one-night stand with Spinelli, she led Lulu and Dante to believe that the little girl was theirs when she gave birth.

Maxie lost Spinelli and her daughter

Eventually, the truth came out about the baby Maxie Jones gave birth to, and Damian Spinelli was horrified that she would hand their child over to someone else. That pushed him to fight for custody of the little girl, whom Maxie named Georgie, after her late sister. Maxie was heartbroken when he won.

Spinelli and Ellie moved to Seattle for a new life with baby Georgie, and Maxie was left alone, with just visitation rights (via Soaps In Depth). For several years, the two parents flew back and forth between Seattle and Port Charles for Georgie's sake. But, in 2021, Spinelli and Ellie broke up, and he moved back to Port Charles for good.

As of this writing, Maxie and Spinelli share custody of Georgie, and Spinelli is Maxie's best friend and confidante, helping with her other two small children, James and Bailey, according to Soap Hub. It's clear that Spinelli would take Maxie back in a second, but whether she will take him back remains to be seen.
