Rob Anderson Details How Gay Science Has Evolved Over Time - Exclusive
There's gay history — like knowing that The Stonewall Riots are integral — and then there's gay science. If we're being honest, both are crucial for a well-rounded education. So, as you gather your queer art films and documentaries to watch during Pride Month, don't forget to sprinkle in videos from Rob Anderson's "Gay Science," the TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube series that works to explain through science why certain stereotypes exist.
Naturally, Anderson's series is in jest, and his social media analytics prove that he's got the comedy chops to keep growing in the industry. His TikTok account has more than 2 million followers, for instance, with people around the world endlessly laughing at his content. One such "Gay Science" video sees Anderson explaining why "gay relationships feel longer than straight ones." Anderson breaks down time and logic to make his case, all in the name of comedy.
And his approach works. Not only is he consistently gaining new followers, but he's also expanded into live shows — even releasing music that's simultaneously serious and slightly comedic. Luckily, The List had the chance to chat with Anderson about all of his ventures, and among the fascinating tidbits, he revealed was just how "Gay Science" has evolved since its inception.
'Gay Science' has become 'a brand' for Rob Anderson
Rob Anderson has become known for his "Gay Science" series, and while he's been steadily building his brand and show, he's no one trick pony. In fact, as Anderson continues to grow as a person — as well as grows his platform — so does "Gay Science."
When speaking to The List about the series' evolution, Anderson explained, "I've had over 35, 40 different episodes and developed them into longer-form shows that are about five minutes on YouTube, or integrated them into a live show that I'm doing as well. So it's become a bit of a brand for me by having so much content around it, and it's very exciting."
Naturally, as any creator does, Anderson has a favorite of his many videos. "I love the one about teachers and why gay boys are female teachers' favorites," he shared. "I had a lot of fun with that one, and it really resonated with me personally." However, that isn't his only favorite, as he added, "And the one where, if you have two gay people who are working together, they are either best friends or enemies. I used science to show [the proof], there's a chart with that one."
At the end of the day, "Gay Science" is joyful and funny, and we can't wait to see where this series takes Anderson next.
