General Hospital's Steve Burton Is Sharing Eyebrow-Raising News About His Marriage

Soap legend Steve Burton has been stirring up drama on daytime TV since the 1980s (per IMDb). He first grabbed the attention of soap fans with his role as Harris Michaels in "Days of Our Lives." Later, he became a mainstay in "General Hospital" as Jason Morgan, as well as on "The Young and the Restless" with his character Dylan McAvoy. Now, the TV star is reprising his former "Days of Our Lives" role following his departure from the "General Hospital" cast after refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

Burton certainly knows a thing or two about on-screen drama and shocking plot twists, but recently, his own life has raised eyebrows, landing him and his family in the tabloids. First, in May 2022, it was revealed that his wife of 23 years, Sheree Burton (née Gustin), was having a baby – but not with the actor. The soap star claimed that his wife was pregnant with someone else's baby. A source close to the couple told People that their marriage had hit a rough patch and they were trying to "keep things as normal as possible" for their three children, though they were already separated. Now, the "General Hospital" alum has another update on his personal life and the future of his marriage.

Steve Burton and his wife are headed for divorce

Steve Burton has filed for divorce from his wife after 23 years of marriage, according to TMZ. Court documents list the couple's date of separation as March 1, 2022, and the reason for the split was "irreconcilable differences." Burton is reportedly seeking joint custody of the pair's two children who are still under the age of 18. TMZ also notes that the actor has requested to leave alimony out of the divorce settlement, appearing to want a clean break from his relationship.

The couple appear to have been preparing for the termination of their marriage over the last several months. Besides separating early in the year, Radar also confirmed that the couple sold their family home in May.

When the news first hit of the couple's separation, a soap opera expert told People that fans expressed their support for Burton and were "on his side." Considering the actor hasn't recently spoken publicly on his split, he may be ready to put his real-life drama behind him and instead get fans talking again about his on-screen drama.
