Why Did Fans Think Renovation Island's Sarah And Bryan Baeumler Split?

Thanks to "Renovation Island," which was previously known as "Island of Bryan" in their native Canada, HGTV stars Bryan and Sarah Baeumler have built an impressive empire for themselves. Prior to "Renovation Island" debuting in the States, Bryan had already featured  in "House of Bryan," "Leave it to Bryan," "Disaster DIY," and "Bryan, Inc.," per the Edmonton Journal. He's also a self-made businessman, founding Baeumler Quality Construction and Renovations Inc.

The reality star admitted, "If you'd asked me 15 years ago where I'd be today, I'm not sure I'd have guessed it. I've always been entrepreneurial, but between the construction company and the shows it's certainly taken us in an unexpected direction." Fame doesn't necessarily appeal to Bryan, but he's happy to go along for the ride and see where it takes him. As Country Living notes, wife Sarah works closely with Bryan, utilizing her design skills during the renovations.

The couple frequently butts heads on "Renovation Island," but they always seem to be coming from a place of love, which is what makes it especially surprising that fans thought they'd broken up.

The Baeumlers bicker a lot on Renovation Island

Although "Renovation Island" is a relatively new acquisition for HGTV, leads Bryan and Sarah Baeumler are quickly working their way into fans' hearts in a manner similar to the first couple of the network, Chip and Joanna Gaines. And yet, there were rumors the Canadian natives had split following some tense moments on their hit show. As Distractify points out, "Renovation Island" followed the Baeumlers as they tried to make their dream of running a luxury resort in the Bahamas come true, which naturally involved numerous setbacks.

As a result, fans wondered whether Bryan and Sarah had called it quits. Thankfully, there's no evidence to suggest they have, with the happy couple frequently popping up on each other's social media accounts, while Entertainment Tonight conducted an interview with them in their stunning, fully renovated family home. As Sarah explained of the couple's approach, "We share the good, the bad, and the ugly. We didn't want to just wrap it up in this neat little bow." This also applies to their relationship, which is often tested by working together.

Bryan had some advice for couples in a similar renovation situation: "Take some time off from the job, to spend together. Don't talk about work. Never talk about work in bed." Needless to say, the Baeumlers may squabble regularly onscreen, but they've got a solid foundation.

Bryan and Sarah have been together for a long time

The rumors about the "Renovation Island" stars are even more shocking when you consider how long they've known each other. Bryan And Sarah Baeumler met all the way back in high school, when he was a senior and she was a freshman. As Sarah recalled, in an interview with Streets of Toronto, "We didn't date back then, but we kept in touch over the next 10 years as we both completed high school, university and post-grad programs."

Then, "In 2001, we were both copied on an email from a mutual friend, which was the catalyst for us to begin talking again, and we decided to reunite over coffee after work." Bryan pulled out all the stops for their first official date, which included watching "The Lion King" live onstage and having sushi for dinner. Just three years later, the couple got married in their native Canada. Their honeymoon, meanwhile, was in Las Vegas.

However, the Baeumlers are realistic about how working and living together doesn't always make things easy for them — particularly while the couple was renovating their own home. As Bryan told HGTV Canada, "99 percent of the fights that come up when you're doing a renovation or a construction is not about the tile or the hardwood. It's about something else and that's the catalyst and you're manifesting it there. It's not for everybody."
