King Charles And Lisa Marie Presley Have A Little-Known Family Connection
The world of celebrities and public figures often seems like a small one. Part of this small world is due to the intermarrying of the world's rich and famous: Think Grace Kelly marrying Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956, for example. Marriages connect famous families, sometimes in ironic and not so obvious ways. Though Lisa Marie Presley is forever connected to Elvis "The King" Presley as his only daughter, she has a little-known distant connection to another king: Charles III.
Lisa Marie Presley's heartbreaking death occurred in January 2023. She is survived by daughters Riley Keough and twins Harper and Finley Lockwood. The twins were born during Presley's marriage to musician Michael Lockwood. The couple divorced in 2016. However, this marriage gave Presley a link to the British royal family, albeit one riddled with rumors.
According to the Express, Lockwood's great-great-great-great-great grandfather was Henry Lockwood. Henry's brother Ephraim Lockwood is the great-grandfather of Colonel William P. Thompson. Thompson's grandson Jerome Preston married Alice "Kiki" Karslake (born as Alice Gwynne), an American socialite who was apparently Prince George, Duke of Kent's mistress. Prince George's older brothers were King Edward VIII and King George VI. Upon the death of King George VI, his daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, took the throne. Her death in 2022 marked the beginning of her son's reign as King Charles III. All of this makes Presley a possible distant cousin to King Charles III.
Lisa Marie Presley also befriended Sarah Ferguson
Aside from this distant connection to the United Kingdom's royal family tree, Lisa Marie Presley's marriage to Michael Lockwood led to another royal connection — this time not through an alleged love affair. While living with Lockwood in England, she became close friends with Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. Ferguson is the ex-wife of King Charles III's controversial brother Prince Andrew, Duke of York. Her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, are cousins of Prince William and Prince Harry.
Presley and Ferguson remained close after Presley's divorce from Lockwood. Ferguson even honored Presley at her funeral with a Queen Elizabeth II quote. "My late mother-in-law used to say that nothing can be said can begin to take away the anguish and the pain of these moments because grief is the price we pay for love, and how right she was," Ferguson stated. She also extended her support to Presley's family. "We march forward in support of you," Ferguson added (per Entertainment Tonight). "All of us are with you."
