Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott make up one celeb couple that most people probably never saw coming.
Perhaps best known for portraying "adorkable" teacher Jessica Day on the hit Fox sitcom New Girl, Zooey Deschanel rose to fame with roles in movies like Almost Famous, Elf, and (500) Days of Summer. In addition to her acting career, the multitalented star is also one-half of the musical duo She & Him, which she formed in 2006 with singer-songwriter M. Ward. Jonathan Scott is neither an actor nor musician, but the licensed contractor/television personality does happen to be part of a famous duo himself. Better known as the titular siblings on Property Brothers, Jonathan and Drew Scott rose to fame in the world of home renovation when the HGTV series first premiered in 2011.

Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott had a musical meet cute
Zooey Deschanel's sister, actress Emily Deschanel, teased in a July 2019 interview with People Now that the Deschanel sisters would soon be appearing in an episode of James Corden's Carpool Karaoke: The Series. Costarring Drew and Jonathan Scott of Property Brothers fame, the episode filmed in August 2019 — and, according to reports, Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott were quick to hit it off.
A source revealed to People, "They were doing carpool karaoke and they had a really fun day." Added the source, "They became friends after and then started talking as friends and realized there was more to it."
On Aug. 5, 2019, Jonathan Scott took to Instagram to share some behind-the-scenes photos of the singing sibling pairs, captioning his post, "Met some new humans today. We had fun. I think I'll keep them." At the time of this writing, a release date for the episode has not yet been announced — but we're looking forward to seeing this musical meet-cute.
Zooey Deschanel split from her husband shortly before stepping out with Jonathan Scott
Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott were first spotted out together on Sept. 13, 2019 (via Hollywood Life) — only one week after Deschanel confirmed she was splitting from her husband of four years, Jacob Pechenik.
On Sept. 6, 2019, the New Girl actress and Pechenik, a producer, released a joint statement regarding their split to People, saying, "After much discussion and a long period of contemplation, we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and co-parents rather than life partners." Deschanel and Pechenik share two children together — Elsie and Charlie. After Deschanel was spotted with Scott, Pechenik revealed to Hollywood Life that he and the Elf star are still on good terms, saying, "Everything is amicable and we have two beautiful children together." He continued, "We've been raising them and we're going to continue to raise them, and take great care of get them ... I'm happy."
While Scott doesn't have any children of his own, a source told People, "He's very close to his family and loves children." We're guessing that definitely scored the star some brownie points with Deschanel.
Jonathan Scott was married for a short time
No matter how amicable a split might be, breaking up is always hard to do. Luckily for Zooey Deschanel, Jonathan Scott will likely be understanding of all the ups and downs that come with navigating life after splitting up with a spouse, as the Property Brothers star was once married himself.
According to a 2017 People interview, before finding HGTV fame, Scott was married to Kelsy Ully — even relocating from Canada to Las Vegas, Nev. to make his relationship with the airline-crew scheduler work. However, as the star revealed, the couple's marriage failed only two years after their July 2007 wedding.
Still, Scott found plenty to be thankful for in the wake of his divorce. Scott told People, "I'm glad that we found that out early." He continued, "We didn't have kids or anything. And it really helped me understand what I wanted in a relationship."
Zooey Deschanel has been married twice

However, the New Girl actress is no stranger to having her love life play out for the world to see. In September 2009 — shortly after starring in the premiere of her hit indie romance (500) Days of Summer — Deschanel married Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard.
During a July 2011 interview with iVillage (via Us Weekly), Deschanel discussed her marriage to Gibbard, saying, "The most surprising thing [about married life] is that it's not really that different." She continued, "You still have to make a commitment and think about that commitment every day. It's not like you get married and then all the work is done for you." Though Deschanel was certain to add that marriage wasn't "work in a bad way," she and Gibbard ultimately announced their separation in November 2011. A source revealed to Us Weekly that the decision was "mutual and amicable," and denied any involvement from a third party.

In April 2018, a representative for Jonathan Scott confirmed to People that the television personality had split from his girlfriend of nearly three years, Jacinta Kuznetsov. Only one year earlier, Scott had gushed about his relationship with Kuznetsov to People, saying, "This is the most humbling, unexpected, fantastic place to be in my life." He continued, "I've never been happier."
