Bindi Irwin Makes A Surprise Wedding Announcement

Bindi Irwin announced that she married her longtime beau, Chandler Powell, in a small and intimate ceremony on March 25, 2020. While Irwin had initially planned on tying the knot surrounded by her friends and family, the coronavirus pandemic forced her to change her plans. Irwin and Powell said their vows just hours before Australia's coronavirus restrictions — which, per BuzzFeed, include only allowing five people at weddings — went into effect.

Fortunately, Irwin purchased her wedding dress months ago and was able to wear it on her big day. Powell opted for a more laid-back look, wearing a button down shirt and khaki pants. Irwin posted a picture of the two of them sharing their first kiss as husband and wife in an Instagram post. "There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now,"  she wrote in the caption. "We've planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn't have guests at our wedding. This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe."

She added, "Right now we're encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history."

Bindi Irwin honored her father, Steve Irwin, at her wedding

Irwin revealed that, as previously planned, she honored the memory of her father, the late Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin, on her special day. "Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad's memory," she wrote. "We shared tears and smiles and love. Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other."

Irwin closed her announcement with a reminder to people to practice social distancing. "To everyone reading this — stay safe, social distance and remember LOVE WINS!" she wrote.
