Trump's Dig At Emmanuel & Brigitte Macron's Marriage Could Be The Start Of A Brutal Feud

There are certainly some strange things about Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron's marriage, which often inspire chatter online. Yet, it's safe to assume that the French president didn't expect his fellow world leaders to make public digs about his marriage. Unfortunately for him, President Donald Trump made an unexpected comment about Brigitte's treatment of Emmanuel, which could hint that a new Trump feud is incoming. Just shy of a year ago, a video of the French couple made the rounds online thanks to what appeared to be a major red flag folks couldn't ignore about the Macrons' relationship. The video shows Emmanuel standing in the open door of his plane after he and Brigitte landed in Vietnam.

Brigitte appears to shove Emmanuel before he spots the cameras and gives a smile and a wave. On April 1, 2026, Trump spoke at an Easter lunch at the White House. The divisive politician recounted a conversation he supposedly had with Emmanuel: "Then I call up France, Macron — whose wife treats him extremely badly — he's still recovering from the right to the jaw. And I say: 'Emmanuel, we'd love to have some help in the Gulf,'" (via the Daily Mail). Trump then proceeded to poke fun at the French president's response, even imitating his accent. And, unsurprisingly, Emmanuel wasn't exactly impressed.

Emmanuel Macron clearly thinks Donald Trump needs to stop talking

While speaking to reporters in South Korea the day after President Donald Trump's rather uncouth jokes about him, Emmanuel Macron was quick to comment on what was said, decrying it as "neither elegant nor up to standard." But that was all he felt the need to say, clarifying simply, "I am not going to respond to them — they do not merit a response," per The Guardian. It's completely understandable that Macron was bothered by Trump's dig at his marriage and why he didn't want to say much about it, since that could just bring more attention to the controversial leader's take. But he was more forthcoming about his feelings about Trump's behavior in the conflict with Iran, as well as his lashing out against NATO.

"When we're serious, we don't say the opposite of what we said the day before every day, and maybe one shouldn't speak every day," Macron explained, per the New York Times. According to him, "We just need to calm things down and build lasting peace." Macron made another reference to Trump's behavior, too, noting, "If you create doubt every day about your commitment, you hollow it out," adding, "When you've signed a treaty [...] You live up to the commitments you've signed. You don't comment on them every morning." Evidently, Macron's best advice for Trump at the moment is to just keep his mouth shut. And it's safe to assume he won't be taking that advice. So, this feud could get more serious.
