The Two Things Calista Flockhart Refuses To Do With Harrison Ford

Since 2010, legendary movie star Harrison Ford has been married to fellow prominent actor Calista Flockhart, with the pair having been together since 2002. And while Flockhart is much younger than Ford, the fact remains that this is a very long time to be with someone — so much so that it's probably hard for people together that long to imagine doing anything without the other person. According to Flockhart herself, however, there are exactly two things Ford will simply never convince her to do with him, no matter how long they've been together: get in a small plane or on the back of a motorbike with him.

If you're an avid watcher of Ford's movies, you've no doubt seen him at the helm of some rather exciting vehicles over the years, whether he was piloting the Millennium Falcon in the "Star Wars" franchise or driving a motorcycle with late screen icon Sean Connery in tow in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." But while the real-life Ford is not actually an intergalactic smuggler nor a swashbuckling archaeologist, he is indeed a licensed pilot and motorcyclist. And that is simply more excitement than Flockhart needs in her life.

During a January 2024 interview with The New York Times, a then-59-year-old Flockhart said that, while she would happily ride in a modern jet piloted by her then-81-year-old husband (provided there's also a co-pilot present), you'll never catch her climbing into a small, single-engine plane with him. She also has no plans of ever riding on the back of one of Ford's motorcycles — at least, not again. "I went once, when I was young and stupid. We were riding on a highway in Jackson on the way to the airport, and the wind was so strong and the helmet was so heavy that I couldn't move my neck for three days," Flockhart recalled.

Harrison Ford's flying and riding days appear to be winding down

Calista Flockhart's story about the one time she rode on a motorcycle with husband Harrison Ford certainly explains why she hasn't been eager to do it again in the years since. Not only that, but it also makes perfect sense why she refuses to ride in small planes with him, given Ford's previous close call with disaster. Back in March 2015, the "Blade Runner" star was piloting a single-engine, World War II-era plane when engine troubles forced him to make a crash landing on a nearby golf course. He suffered several injuries as a result of the incident, though eventually made a full recovery. Of course, that didn't make the whole ordeal itself any less scary for his wife.

"It might, in fact, be one of the worst things I've ever been through in my life," Flockhart said of Ford's plane crash during her interview with The New York Times. "It was horrible," she added. With that in mind, while Ford still clearly maintains his love for planes and motorcycles, Flockhart can apparently take some solace knowing that Ford's flying and riding days appear to be winding down.

During a May 2026 interview with People, Ford shared that he was "cutting back" on flying. As for how he decided to fill the free time that emerged as a result, he added that he had been spending a lot of time riding not motorcycles, but good, old-fashioned bicycles. "I really enjoy being outside in nature on a bike, and that's recent for me ... I've always ridden bikes, but I've ridden road bikes, and now I enjoy riding mountain bikes," Ford said.
