The Worst-Dressed Stars At The 2026 Toronto Film Festival

Red carpet fashion was sadly lacking at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which took place from September 10-20. The famous event saw many celebrities grace the red carpet during its 10-day run, including Anna Kendrick, Michelle Yeoh, and Penélope Cruz. But, while we generally love seeing the major style moments these A-listers deliver, many big names brought their worst-dressed looks. Some of these may even belong on the list of the worst red carpet outfits of 2026 because they were definitely cringeworthy.

The actors who made our worst-dressed list this year are beautiful, and most are typically fashion-forward at other events. We wouldn't go so far as to call these actors some of the worst-dressed celebrities of the year, or anything so drastic, but we do think these stars should have a conversation with their stylists because these outfits were odd, boring, or just downright bad. Maybe one day they'll agree that their outfits were the worst.

Take Kendrick, for example, whose nature-inspired dress was simply not flattering. Or Yeoh, whose plain t-shirt didn't seem red-carpet worthy at all. Others had outfits that were too frilly or too confusing. Regardless of the reason, these seven stars were the worst-dressed at TIFF 2026.

Don't look too closely at Annie Murphy's dress from the premiere of "All That She Wants" on September 13, or you might get a headache. The "Schitt's Creek" star's TIFF outfit looked like an optical illusion, with its swirling patterns of white and black polka dots over sheer fabric. The extra-long sleeves that covered Murphy's hands and the long hemline that hid her shoes did not help with the dizzying effect, making it hard to even know where to look.

Anna Kendrick walked the TIFF red carpet on September 12 for the "Babies" premiere in a dress that resembled a painting come to life. The strapless bodice featured a detailed nature scene with trees and birds, and the full brown skirt looked like tree bark complete with various rings. It seemed more appropriate for a costume party than a film premiere. Not to mention, it wasn't the right color and washed out the "Pitch Perfect" star's complexion completely. 

When Penélope Cruz attended the "La Bola Negra" Canadian premiere on September 15, she wore an outfit seemingly inspired by a feather duster. The form-fitting white dress featured wispy feathers all over, including extra on the straps and along the bottom hem of her mermaid-style gown. It drew our attention like a swan or a pure-white peacock, but more in a we-can't-look-away vibe than something truly stunning.

No offense to Summer H. Howell, but we were just not vibing with the dress she wore to the "Carrie" premiere on September 18. Her light brown dress featured a slouchy neckline and ruffles in front, with a short slit that came up just past her knees. The '90s-style dress wasn't our favorite as it blended with her skin tone and looked like someone's grandma sewed it from her curtains. The same dress in a different color would have been much better!

There's nothing wrong with Michelle Yeoh's outfit — that is, if she wore it to a get-together with friends instead of to TIFF. Yeoh wore a white t-shirt over a black leather mini-skirt at the premiere of "It's My Time" on September 17. She attempted to dress up her look with a tiny black belt fastened loosely around her waist, a twist gold bracelet, and a pair of black pumps, but it still seemed too casual for the occasion.

Taraji P. Henson seemingly watched "The Matrix" before getting ready to attend TIFF. On September 14, she walked the red carpet for the premiere of "Darlene Love: I Know Where I've Been" in an odd ensemble. Her black dress featured sharp shoulders, a plunging neckline with a bold, shimmery swoop, and a long, black skirt with a train. Henson also wore over-the-elbow black gloves and kept what looked like a black baton fastened to her skirt, like she was ready to fight. (We come in peace, we swear!)

Did Cynthia Erivo just roll out of bed before attending the premiere of "Prima Facie" on September 13? It certainly looked like she did, as her TIFF outfit resembled a long, black dressing gown wrapped around her body with a frilly white trim along the front and over her arms. It's not that it's ugly; we're just saying it wouldn't look out of place if she also had on fuzzy slippers and an eye mask.

Mickey Sumner wore a white dress to the September 17 premiere of "Up Against It," but it made a statement for all the wrong reasons. The sleeveless maxi dress was fitted throughout her body and featured a billowing, ruffled front from neckline to hemline that was shockingly bad. Was it inspired by folded napkins stacked on top of each other? An extra-long bib? A crumpled bedsheet? The only thing we know for sure is that it's an odd choice for someone who could have easily wiped the red carpet with her stunning beauty.
