Oh, how hard it is to be famous! You have to contend with nosy neighbors trying to catch a glimpse of your ginormous house, security must keep intruders from entering the grounds, and when you put up cameras with voice commands to tell people to bugger off when they do get too close, you're compared to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. That's the situation Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce found themselves in after buying a massive lakeside property in Ohio. Swift's life has changed in many ways since tying the knot with Kelce, including hitting the headlines for making neighbors feel affronted by their security measures.

One of the celebrity couple's Ohio neighbors complained to Page Six that residents found out fast that walking close to their property would result in a camera telling them to take a hike. "A neighbor approached the house and got a voice warning about not passing onto the property after getting too close to the house," they dished. Swift and Kelce's very clear intent not to welcome their neighbors with open arms is reminiscent of Meghan and Harry's supposed aloofness when they moved into their own mansion in Montecito.

Their neighbor, Frank McGinity, revealed in his 2023 memoir, "Get Off Your Street," that he attempted to gift the Sussexes films chronicling the area's history, which he made himself. But, according to McGinity, "The gate guy turned me away and wouldn't take the film, just saying 'they're not interested.'" Another neighbor, Susan, had a similar experience. "I left a bottle of wine at their gate to welcome them, and it was returned to me, unopened, the following day," she told the Daily Mail. As Susan surmised, "I'm not sure they ever wanted to hang out with anyone who wasn't a billionaire or famous or both."

Taylor Swift has weathered her fair share of controversies over the years, and the pop star added another to the list when she and Travis Kelce attempted to do some renovations on their new Ohio property, in 2026. Celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi shared the news in September, claiming that Swift and Kelce were readying to erect a fence around their new property, but neighbors were (understandably) not that thrilled about it, arguing that it would spoil their lakeside views. Tipsters disclosed that the A-listers planned to extend the fence all the way to the lakeside in front of their house. There was reportedly a meeting over these plans, where neighbors aired their objections.

At least Swift and Kelce talked to residents before they started construction, unlike another royal-adjacent couple, who erected a gate on their property and effectively blocked a footpath that their neighbors claimed they had used for years. Unsurprisingly, James Matthews and Pippa Middleton's diva behavior at their country estate ruffled local feathers. Residents initially won a legal dispute on the matter, but Matthews lodged an appeal, and in September 2026, the decision was overturned.

Swift and Kelce's request to build their 8-foot fence has not been approved at the time of writing, mostly because regulations state that fences in the area are not allowed to exceed 2.5 feet, per the Daily Mail. If you want to build something higher than that, it must have a transparency of 75%, which defeats the point of privacy anyway. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was reportedly very "gracious" about the whole thing.
