Travis & Jason Kelce Aren't Fans Of This Common Proposal Scenario
When it comes to popping the question, you have all kinds of options. Should you do it at a fancy restaurant? Should you organize a flash mob? Should you do it at a professional sports game, and maybe even do it via the jumbotron? As for those sporting event proposals, not everyone's a fan, and that includes Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce. For the NFL stars, it's too much of a public spectacle and not intimate enough.
On a September 2026 episode of their "New Heights" podcast in a segment called "No Dumb Questions," the brothers were asked what they thought about sporting event proposals. They looked at one example of a man proposing while on the sidelines before a New York Jets vs. Tennessee Titans game, which was caught on video and shared to Instagram. Then there was the New York Yankees fan who proposed via a jumbotron message: "Tania, Will You Marry Me? Jim P.S. The Ring is on the Way!" A picture of that message went viral on X. This was the one that the brothers seemed to take more issue with. Jason called the jumbotron message without a ring "classless ... You got to have a ring!"
The two of them did admit that engagement rings can be expensive, or perhaps the proposer in question didn't know what exact ring to choose, but for them, they saw the ring as integral to the proposal process. "That's the whole thing," Travis argued. Jason added, "You don't put it on a f****** digital scoreboard." So they really weren't impressed with this proposal.
Travis and Jason went with more intimate proposals over something public
After Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce joked about the specifics of the New York Yankees fan's proposal, they got into why they didn't like sporting event proposals in general. "I'm more into the intimate style," Jason said. "But ... to each their own. If you both are big fans and you're digging it, more power to you." Travis agreed with that sentiment, and laughed after Jason quipped, "If you want to be put on display in front of a crowd of drunk Yankees fans, go for it."
People online agreed with Jason and Travis' assessment, especially about the lack of ring. One person commented on the original X post about the jumbotron proposal, "I'm sorry – I would've BOO-ed so loud, GET THAT GIRL HER RING." Others have noted how a public proposal can be risky if they turn you down.
Travis and Jason each proposed to their wives — Taylor Swift and Kylie Kelce respectively — in a private setting. Travis proposed to Taylor in his backyard which had been decorated with masses of flowers. Jason's proposal was a little bit more unorthodox, and it's one of the strangest things about Kylie and Jason's marriage. Kylie, Jason, and Travis discussed it on another "New Heights" episode from September 2023. Kylie revealed that Jason faked needing to go to the bathroom, and it was actually to go ask Kylie's parents for permission to propose. When he got back to Kylie, who was waiting in their truck, she questioned if he really went to the bathroom. She confirmed that Jason said to her, "'This is not the most romantic way to do this, but can you get out of the truck?'" At least it wasn't at a Philadelphia Eagles game.
