Who Are Kenny Rogers' 5 Kids?
The late Kenny Rogers, who was married five times, was the father of five kids. He welcomed his first child when he was just 19 and went on to have four more from three different wives over the years. But his chosen profession often kept him away from his family, something he tried to rectify when it came to his youngest children, twins Justin and Jordan. As he told The Tennessean in 2013, "I think success requires that you be selfish sometimes, and I refuse to do that now. I'm determined to stay home with the boys, and it's really a wonderful gift for me. So if I have no more success, I'm OK. But to have the opportunity to have success [is really special]."
While some A-listers' kids become household names in their own right, Rogers falls into the group of celebrities with kids you might've not known about because they lead quieter lives. Rogers' youngest children have only just reached adulthood, all grown up and living normal lives, while his eldest are well into their 60s. All have forged their own paths, some privately, some publicly, including some taking after their dad and pursuing music. Read on to learn all about Rogers' five children.
Kenny Rogers welcomed his first child, daughter Carole Rogers, when he was young
Kenny Rogers welcomed his first child and only daughter, Carole Lynn Billingsley, in 1958. He and his first wife, Janice Gordon, were both just 19. Rogers claimed the pregnancy occurred the first time he and Gordon were intimate and her parents thought the singer "ruined her life," per a 2012 interview with Fox News Digital. Rogers and Gordon divorced and he agreed to give full custody of Carole Lynn to Gordon and her new husband, David Billingsley.
Rogers was open about not having much of a relationship with Carole after the divorce. In his memoir, "Luck or Something Like It" (via Showbiz CheatSheet), he wrote that it "was extremely painful" to sign over his parental rights to David. "I reluctantly agreed. I wasn't happy with the decision, but I truly believed Carole would be better off with a dad in the house with her, whose name she used, rather than trying to explain where her real father was. I made a conscious effort not to create problems for their family. Consequently, my daughter and I never had a chance to really bond," he wrote.
Rogers did have limited visitation with Carole for a little while, and when she was an adult they apparently reconnected. They reportedly went on vacation together, and she was photographed attending award shows with him. In a 2012 interview with Fox News, Rogers confirmed that they were no longer in contact, making him one of a number of celebs who have been estranged from their kids. Though Carole is technically a nepo baby, it seems she wants nothing to do with the spotlight, and there's very little information about her online.
Kenny Rogers Jr. followed in his famous father's footsteps
Kenny Rogers and his third wife, Margo Anderson, welcomed Kenny Rogers Jr., in 1964. After Kenny Sr. and Anderson split, Kenny Jr. was raised primarily by Anderson. Kenny Sr. felt a sense of guilt regarding his distant relationship with Kenny Jr. As Kenny Sr. told People in 1980, "I would wish desperately that my relationship with Kenny Jr. were better." In a later interview with the outlet, he blamed his career: "As you try to get ahead, it's too easy to think that these kids are still going to be kids tomorrow and that once you get your current project done, you'll spend some time with them." Years later, Kenny Sr. and Kenny Jr. began repairing their relationship.
Kenny Jr., an actor and composer, shared the screen with his dad in multiple movies, the 1994 made-for-TV movie "MacShayne: The Final Roll of the Dice." Kenny Jr. has also contributed to the soundtracks of films like "Get Him to the Greek" and "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping."
On a 2025 episode of the "Voices of the West" podcast, Kenny Jr. said he wanted to pave his own path in the industry and make it clear he knows he isn't his father. "No matter how hard I try and tried, I would never have supplanted Kenny Rogers," he said. "You know he is who he is. He was who he was. He did what he did. There's never been anyone like that before since, and nor should there be. And at any effort, I'm only going to be a pale comparison. So better to just do my own thing and be my own person."
Christopher Cody Rogers faced health issues at a young age and got into showbiz
Christopher Cody Rogers was born in 1981 to Kenny Rogers and his fourth wife, Marianne Gordon. Christopher was born with hyaline membrane disease (HMD), a respiratory condition that is primarily found in newborns. Fortunately, Christopher survived the potentially fatal condition. "Every day I see what he's doing that he didn't do the day before," he told People in 1982. "I know the hard way that we cannot recapture this age, and I'm not missing those things, because I don't think I'm going to have another chance. This is it."
Kenny also later spoke of the guilt he felt about his divorce from Gordon and how it impacted Christopher. He told The Irish Independent in 2006 he broke the news to Christopher while out on a golf cart, recalling that Christopher asked if Kenny was still going to be his father. "So I told him, 'Of course', and he said, 'I thought Mom was going to remarry and somebody else was going to be my dad and I could never tell people you were my daddy and you wouldn't look at me like I'm your son,'" Kenny recalled. "It was just a 12-year-old sorting out those things in his head, but then he was fine."
Christopher went on to become an actor and a filmmaker. As an actor, he appeared with Kenny in "The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw" as well as an episode of "Reno 911!." Christopher also directed several short films and the vertical version of Blake Shelton's "Turnin' Me On" music video.
Kenny Rogers welcomed twin boys, Jordan and Justin Rogers, at an advanced age
Kenny Rogers was 65 when he welcomed his youngest children, twins Jordan Edward and Justin Charles Rogers, with Wanda Miller Rogers in 2004. Wanda was Kenny's fifth and final wife; the two met in 1993 and married four years later. In a 2006 chat with People, the music icon was rather candid about his own experience with having not one, but two babies at that particular stage of his life. "They say that twins at my age will either make you or break you. Right now I'm leaning towards break," he quipped. "I would kill for the energy they've got."
After the twins got a little older, Kenny decided to hit the pause button on touring so he could spend more time at home with his family. "I hope my fans understand that I'm a father first and a singer second," he told CMT News (via Closer) in 2016. "As it turns out, I'm missing some very great parts of my boys' lives. I know as well as anybody else how that time gets away from you. And I don't want to miss it. I just worry about how much longer I'm going to be here, and I want to have time to spend with them. It's pretty simple."
Kenny Rogers' twins are embarking on adulthood with support from family
Country legend Kenny Rogers died in 2020 at the age of 81 when his twins, Justin and Jordan Rogers, were just 15. Three years later, the boys graduated high school and made rare public comments about their dad. Jordan told People at the time, "I used to be bullied a lot. I'd come home crying and my dad would say, 'Just keep being yourself. You're very funny.' Every day I still live up to that." Both also expressed an interest in music, with Jordan revealing he picked up the drums and Justin telling the outlet he took guitar lessons "because I wanted to be like my dad."
Their mom Wanda reflected on them taking after her late husband as well, telling People, "I see so much of him in their mannerisms, how they stand with their hands in their pockets or behind their backs when they're listening to something. I always tell them, 'That was your dad's look.' The older they get, the more they want to know about him. I hear them tell people, 'My dad used to stand like that.' It's so sweet."
In 2025, Jordan and Justin turned 21, an occasion marked by Kenny's social media team. Their future plans have yet to be determined, but they keep their father with them at all times. "I miss everything about him. He was a really fun dad," Justin told People.
