The Surviving Cast Of Tombstone Is Aging Like Fine Whiskey

"Tombstone" (1993) is a fantastic movie that still holds up incredibly well today — point blank, full stop, end of discussion. The dramatized retelling of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and Wyatt Earp's subsequent vendetta ride deserves a chef's kiss every single time: the actors bring their characters back to life perfectly, the music adds a great touch, the sets look incredibly real, and the costumes ... Seriously, name another film where someone can say "I'm your huckleberry" multiple times and not sound ridiculous. We'll wait.

As the metaphor goes, though, time is a thief. Sadly, not everyone from "Tombstone" is still with us: Val Kilmer (Doc Holliday) died in 2025, while Bill Paxton (Morgan Earp) and Powers Boothe (William "Curly Bill" Brocius) both died in 2017. Everyone from "Tombstone" who is still here with us, however, manages to have the same things going for them: their respective careers are continuing to thrive, as are their physical appearances. Aging like fine wine? No, these people are aging like fine whiskey.

Everything about Kurt Russell is fantastic

While Kurt Russell isn't the biggest fan of "Tombstone," he deserves a serious amount of credit for the amount of work he put into it — if the stories are true, Russell all but spearheaded the whole filming process himself. In "Tombstone," Russell stars as Wyatt Earp, an ex-lawman who eventually gets drawn back into the profession. Look at that mustache! Russell's facial hair wasn't only real but personally maintained by him, too.

Russell was 42 years old when "Tombstone" came out. Over 30 years later, Russell's looks aren't the only thing aging well: His old movies are now cult classics, while his newer projects are raking in the dough. Russell has played Ego in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2017; he also stars in AppleTV's "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" alongside his son, Wyatt Russell. "As an actor, I'm hungrier than ever to find great parts," Russell told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in 2026. "Aging is just a natural part of life ... As an actor, my appearance and performances are evolving. Age is just part of it."

Sam Elliott is still rocking that mustache

Sam Elliott has starred in quite a few Westerns, with "Tombstone" remaining one of the biggest highlights of his career. In the movie, Elliott stars alongside Kurt Russell as Virgil Earp, Wyatt's older brother. While Wyatt wants nothing to do with the lawlessness in Tombstone, Virgil agrees to help put the Cowboys in their place. By the end of 1993, Elliott was 49 years old with a fantastic mustache of his own.

Elliott is still rocking two things all these years later: a full 'stache and a prolific acting career. In the early 2020s, Elliott portrayed Shea Brennan in Taylor Sheridan's "1883." Since 2025, Elliot has portrayed Thomas "T.L." Norris in another Sheridan TV series, "Landman." "The truth of [T.L.'s physicality] is very true to where I am at this point in my life physically," Elliott told Variety in May 2026. "I've had a hard life. I've been an athlete all my life, and I've been a laborer all my life, and I'm paying for it now."

Michael Biehn knows how to work a camera

Michael Biehn delivers an exceptional performance in "Tombstone" as Johnny Ringo, the Cowboys' second-in-command. Impulsive and boisterous (yet smart, since he speaks Latin), Ringo has an immediate problem with Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, and pretty much everyone else he comes into contact with. Biehn was 37 years old when "Tombstone" dropped; in the years since, he's openly credited Kurt Russell for the film's success.

Biehn celebrated his 70th birthday in July 2026, although if you told us he was still in his 50s, we'd believe you. Biehn's directorial debut came in 2011 with "The Victim," a thriller he also co-wrote and starred in. His most recent acting credits include "The Lockdown" (2024), "Rippy" (2024), and "Onslaught" (2026). "It was always about the work to me ... I was very, very serious about the work," Biehn told "The Big Picture Podcast" (via Instagram) in September 2026. "Ten years ago, 15 years ago, they started calling me 'iconic.' And so, I had to get my dictionary out and read [the definition]."

Jason Priestley is just a good looking guy

Jason Priestley was only 23 years old — and knee-deep in "Beverly Hills, 90210" — when he was cast as Billy Breckinridge in "Tombstone." As depicted in the movie, the real Breckinridge was the deputy sheriff of Tombstone and friendly with the Cowboys, though not directly involved in their activities. He was also a fan of the theater!

While Priestley is a barely recognizable 1990s heartthrob today, those bright blue eyes will always be unmistakable; the actor turned 57 in August 2026, but he could arguably pass for late 40s. Between 2016 and 2021, Priestley portrayed Matt Shade in "Private Eyes." A spin-off series was ordered in 2026 with Priestley reprising the role. "Sam Elliott was always really good about giving me advice, and talking to me about things," Priestley told ReMIND Magazine in 2025. "That movie ... the first 20 names on the call sheet were all big name actors at the time, right? It was remarkable. I just felt very lucky to have been a part of that project."

Jon Tenney looks great for his age

Jon Tenney appears in "Tombstone" as Billy Breckinridge's boss, Sheriff John Behan; like Breckinridge's, Behan was aligned with the Cowboys, though his involvement was more pronounced. Tenney was 31 years old during filming and certainly looked great, but unfortunately, his facial hair wasn't real. "[Tenney] didn't get to grow his own moustache because he had a job right before that. They had to put a fake moustache on him," Michael Biehn told MovieWeb in 2010.

For someone close to the minimum age of retirement, Tenney is definitely aging gracefully; he doesn't really look it, but Tenney turns 65 years old in December 2026. Speaking of 2026, Tenney acted in multiple episodes of two TV shows: "American Classic" and "Cry Wolf." He previously starred in hits like "The Closer" and "Scandal." "I wanted to be an actor since, you know, the third grade," Tenney told Alec Baldwin on "Here's the Thing" (via Instagram) in July 2026. "Everybody kept saying I'd grow out of it ... I never did."

Stephen Lang's white hair suits him well

Stephen Lang was 41 years old when he brought Ike Clanton to life in "Tombstone." While some of the movie's supporting characters got lost in the explosive storyline's sauce, Lang's portrayal of Ike, a member of the Cowboys, truly stood out. Lang was an experienced stage performer before "Tombstone" and was good friends with playwright Arthur Miller, one of Marilyn Monroe's three husbands.

Anyway, Lang's face card is still holding up strong all these years later, as is his career. Lang turned 74 in July 2026 and has most recently appeared in "Hellfire" and "House of David," though he might be best known nowadays as Colonel Mitch Quaritch in James Cameron's Avatar franchise. "I [try] to remain optimistic and hopeful about everything. And hope is a great nutrient, it seems to me, for the soul," Lang told Senior Planet in 2025. "I think [yoga] keeps me young but, in any case, I have moved into old man territory."

Thomas Haden Church has a good head of hair

Thomas Haden Church was 32 years old when he filmed "Tombstone." He appears as Billy Clanton, Ike Clanton's brother and a fellow member of the Cowboys. Before he played an outlaw, Church was known for playing Lowell Mather on the early 1990s TV show "Wings." In 2025, he revealed that he didn't actually audition for "Tombstone" — as fate would have it, he was in the right place at the right time.

"As small as my role was in 'Tombstone,' I got a lot of traction," Chuch remarked to Entertainment Weekly (via YouTube) in 2018. "It was my first feature film and it was a huge success ... Val Kilmer winks at me, and I try to kill him!" Church may be 66 years old, as of 2026, but based on his recent filmography, he has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. Over the past couple of years, Church has starred in "Accidental Texan," the Peacock original show "Twisted Metal," and Rian Johnson's "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery."

Dana Delany's beauty is undeniable

Dana Delany portrays Josephine Marcus in "Tombstone," an adventurous traveling actor who stops in the town to put on a performance. As soon as Josephine plants her feet on the ground, however, she sets her sights on Wyatt Earp (who was informally married to Mattie Blaylock). Delany was 37 years old when "Tombstone" hit theaters. Delany's popularity initially increased in the late 1980s due to appearances on TV shows like "China Beach." By the time "Tombstone" came around in the early '90s, people knew Delany's name — and how beautiful she was.

Is Delany drinking from an undiscovered fountain of youth or something? The actor turned 70 in March 2026, yet she doesn't look it in the slightest. Delany filled Steve Harvey in on some supposed anti-aging secrets in 2015, though none of them contained magical properties. "I think I've figured it out. I've never been married, I don't have kids, I do yoga every day, and I drink a lot of wine," she listed on the Steve talk show.

Paula Malcomson continues to look radiant

Like Jason Priestley, Paula Malcomson was in her early 20s when she portrayed Allie Earp, Virgil Earp's wife, in "Tombstone." Incredibly, the character was Malcomson's second acting role; she made her debut in "Another Girl Another Planet" (1992). Malcomson was only featured in a few scenes with even fewer lines, though her demeanor still made an impression. Like Dana Delany, Malcomson looks incredible for her age; she celebrated her 56th birthday in June 2026.

While "Tombstone" is simply unforgettable, Malcomson has actually appeared in several iconic movies and TV shows over the years: highlight roles include Trixie in "Deadwood," Abby Donovan in "Ray Donovan," and Katniss Everdeen's mother in The Hunger Games franchise. With all that said, it's even more impressive that Malcomson never received any training and, for a while, had no agent. She told The Times in 2022, "I hate to tell this story because it sounds horrible for other actors. That's not to say this fantastic career ensued. There were 10 years of struggle — of learning to be an actor."

Michael Rooker has something special about him

Michael Rooker's character in "Tombstone," Sherman McMasters, undergoes quite the character transformation. Originally associated with the Cowboys, Sherman switches allegiances after the gang sets their sights outside of the Earps and Doc Holliday. Rooker was nearly 40 years old during production; "Tombstone" was his third movie of 1993.

Rooker doesn't just look great in his 70s — he celebrated the lastest milestone in April 2025 — but has built quite a resume, especially over the past decade. Like Kurt Russell, Rooker has starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the DC Universe. He recently lent his voice to the video game "Call of Duty: Black Ops 7" in 2025. Rooker appeared on Michael Biehn's "Just Foolin' About" podcast in 2026, in which the two discussed "Tombstone" at length. Rooker revealed that he was cast as Sherman after a quick meeting with screenwriter Kevin Jarre. "We had lunch ... and he offered it to me," he explained. "Pretty simple."

Billy Bob Thornton stands out from the crowd

Although scandals have soured Billy Bob Thornton's reputation, we can't talk about "Tombstone" without mentioning him. In the movie, Thornton portrays Johnny Tyler, a bullish card dealer who ends up getting an earful from Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Thornton was 38 years old when "Tombstone" was released and, as has since been revealed, largely improvised his lines.

Between his lengthy filmography and long-time music career, Thornton continues to work incredibly hard in his 70s; he turned 71 in August 2026. For everything he's been through, he manages to look pretty good doing so, too. Thornton has starred in "Landman" as Tommy Norris, the son of Sam Elliott's character, since the show's debut. "[Turning 70 years old] actually did affect me in a way that I had to, you know, have a few meetings with myself late at night," Thornton told CBS News in 2025. "Every day when I wake up, I just say I'm blessed."

Tomas Arana's lifestyle is treating him well

Tomas Arana portrays Frank Stilwell, another one of Curly Bill's men, in "Tombstone." Frank can be briefly seen during the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral — to be fair, there's a lot going on in that iconic scene —  before sharing a more intimate scene with Ike Clanton and Wyatt Earp. Frank either didn't get the memo that thick mustaches were in or didn't care, but with a face like that, he looked just fine without one!

Arana was getting close to 40 years old when "Tombstone" came out; like Billy Bob Thornton, he also turned 71 in 2026. He may not be the most recognizable actor, but Arana has starred in some incredible blockbusters, including "L.A. Confidential," "Gladiator," and "The Dark Knight Rises." Arana is another "Tombstone" alum to also grace the Marvel Cinematic Universe, too. We can't say for certain, of course, but Arana may look so good in his early 70s because he doesn't live in Hollywood, let alone the United States: He primarily resides in Italy. "I arrived in Naples in 1978, obsessed with Italian cinema," Arana told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. "Real actors and directors make films for themselves before they do it for the audience ... All I ask is for artists to be respected."

Paul Ben-Victor always looks put together

In "Tombstone," Paul Ben-Victor portrays Florentino, a member of the Cowboys. Florentino may be a minor character who briefly appears in the film's opening scene, but he does make an impact, nonetheless: Florentino attempts to translate a Spanish message, only to get a verbal beatdown by Johnny Ringo. Since Ben-Victor isn't of Hispanic descent and has his face largely obscured in "Tombstone," it's hard to reconcile that it's even him.

In the three-something decades since the movie's release, though, Ben-Victor — who turned 61 in July 2026 — has been doing just fine as an actor. You might recognize him from TV shows like "The Wire," "Entourage," and "Nobody Wants This." Ben-Victor once told Daily Actor, "I've always taken it one job at a time — I take what comes next. Perhaps I should've been more picky with some earlier jobs, but a man's got to eat ... I just keep going and I don't really look back."

Billy Zane knows he's got it going on

While Billy Zane didn't have fabulous facial hair in "Tombstone," his character certainly wasn't a sight for sore eyes. Zane portrays Mr. Fabian in the movie, another traveling actor who doubles as Josephine Marcus' companion. While nothing seems to ever please the Cowboys (except, you know, violence), Fabian's Shakespearean monologue does manage to impress them.

Zane celebrated his 60th birthday in February 2026. Want to talk about aging like fine whiskey? Zane looks good in photos, but videos of him in action are just on another level. Zane casually announced that he swam with dolphins in a September 2026 Instagram video, for instance — though, instead of showing off the animals, he flashed his six-pack. "People often say that actors only get better as they get older ... but, like everything, there can be a plateau," Zane told Esquire Greece (translated to English) in 2026. "I want to do maybe some of my best work now, fully aware that there's a time for all of this."

Robert John Burke is more than just an actor

In "Tombstone," Robert John Burke appears as Frank McLaury, another participant in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Frank appears more on Wikipedia than he does in the movie, but this Cowboy checks the boxes like (almost) everyone else: a great mustache, a fierce look in his eye, and an unforgettable presence, albeit a brief one.

Burke was 33 years old when "Tombstone" dropped. At 66 years old (as of September 2026), Burke has lived quite a life so far. Besides his continued acting career — he recently starred in "The Last of Us" and "Digger" — Burke is also a volunteer firefighter on Long Island, New York. He was inspired to become a firefighter after the September 11th attacks in 2001. "It was hotter than h**l," Burke reminisced to Revolutionary Change in 2022 of his time working on the action-packed film. "I got a snapped ankle and the side of my neck and face blew up once." You wouldn't know all that by looking at Burke's face now, though!

Buck Taylor has got some great style

Buck Taylor appears in "Tombstone" as John "Turkey Creek Jack" Johnson, another initial member of the Cowboys who eventually joins Wyatt Earp's posse. We don't see much of Taylor's character until closer to the end of the movie, but if we're looking at just his personality, Turkey Creek Jack seems to have some good, solid morals — and, of course, an even better head of hair.

Taylor was 55 years old when "Tombstone" was released, which makes him 88 as of May 2026. If there's anyone who proves age is just a number, it's Taylor. For one, he's still acting: He recently appeared in "Yellowstone" and "Buffalo Daze." Outside of acting, Taylor is an accomplished artist who paints all things Western: horses, cowboys, characters from movies, etc. "As Doc Holliday would've said in 'Tombstone,' I'm in my prime," Taylor told Red Steagall on "In the Bunkhouse" in 2025. "I'm really living a wonderful part of my life right now, being able to work in films and paint some of my experiences."
