In 2013, Kelly Clarkson married Brandon Blackstock. He is the son of her former manager, Narvel Blackstock, and he became her manager, as per Cheat Sheet. Together, they had two children: daughter River Rose, born in 2014, and son Remington Alexander, born in 2016.

"Irreconcilable differences" led to a divorce in 2020, and Clarkson was awarded primary custody of the children. Still, she co-parents with Blackstock, a situation she discussed with Khloé Kardashian on Clarkson's talk show on Feb. 8, 2021. When Clarkson asked Kardashian how she deals with co-parenting her daughter, True, with Tristan Thompson, Kardashian noted that they "keep it about the kids," that it is "great with communication," and that "trust is the most important thing with raising kids." But what works for Clarkson and Blackstock?

Kelly Clarkson says co-parenting with Brandon Blackstock is 'tough,' but they are focusing on their kids

On the Feb. 8, 2021 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson revealed that her own co-parenting situation with Brandon Blackstock is "tough." "It's just a difficult thing because we're in different places," she said, "and it's like, we both agree on the main things, but it's a hard thing when you're not together all the time, for me personally."

In 2020, Kelly Clarkson said she didn't see her divorce coming. "What I'm dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart. It involves a lot of little hearts," she said. "We know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts." Part of the way the singer is doing this is through craft sessions with her son and daughter, which she finds "therapeutic" (via Hello Magazine).

Additionally, while filming The Kelly Clarkson Show, River and Remington have both made a few appearances. River, in particular, seems to enjoy being in front of the camera like her mother, as she has been in some of Clarkson's music videos and hosted The River Rose Show virtually.

To wrap up her feelings on co-parenting with Blackstock, Clarkson stated on the show that she and Blackstock always focus on their kids. "As long as you make sure it's about the children and their best interests, then we're both on board."
