Brian And Mika Kleinschmidt Reveal How Working Together Affects Their Relationship

Ever since Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt made their HGTV debut in 2019, they've shown everybody what it takes to build a home in only 100 days. However, these 100 Day Dream Home stars took on a completely new challenge in season 2 of the competition series Rock the Block.

Together, they were given only six weeks to completely design a three-story home from top to bottom. "It's a little bit different than 100 Day Dream Home, because we are totally in our comfort zone," Mika explained during a recent press event that The List attended. "In Rock the Block, we were completely like fish out of water."

Not only did the competitive HGTV series put pressure on the couple, but it also put pressure on their relationship. "It was a challenge working with each other all day long and going home with the same person," Brian admitted, and there are multiple ways that their professional partnership affects their personal one.

There's a reason Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt are a perfect pair

When Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt signed up to star on Rock the Block, they were signing up for a busy workday. "We were also filming 100 Dream Homes simultaneously, so it was a lot on our plate," Brian revealed during the press event. The pressure was on to design multiple homes in multiple locations in only a few weeks of time. Winning a competition and getting all of their work done began to take priority over anything else.

Though both Kleinschmidts will admit it was a tough couple of weeks, there's definitely something special about having your spouse as your work partner during Rock the Block. "It was an advantage," Mika explained. "Because we already know how to push each other's buttons and how to choose our battles." If they had been a part of any other pairing, it simply wouldn't be the same. Their marriage seems to be the secret to their success.

HGTV's fiercest home-renovation duos face off during the hit competition series Rock the Block on HGTV every Monday at 9 p.m. ET/PT. It's also available to stream on discovery+.
