Sex And The City Stand-In Reveals Why Her Experience Drove Her Out Of Hollywood

HBO's upcoming Sex and the City revival series And Just Like That has made quite a stir amongst SATC diehards. (Unsurprisingly so!) From Samantha Jones (played by Kim Cattrall) — one of the show's most notable characters — being written out of the script to Mr. Big's whereabouts (via Glamour), there's enough gossip to last until the end of the year. Now a revealing article written by Heather Kristin, a former SATC stand-in, has unveiled that a small feud between co-stars is the least of the set's worries (via Woman & Home).

In an in-depth op-ed for Glamour, Kristin (who worked on set as a stand-in for Kristin Davis aka Charlotte York) wrote about her experience standing in during the early 2000s. Although Kristin decided to stay on for four consecutive seasons, the SATC set wasn't the fantasy she'd expected. "I couldn't wait to meet the stars, hold a cosmo, and step into a pair of Manolo Blahniks," Kristin wrote. "But that wasn't my experience."

After being duct-taped to a table, Kristin decided to quit the show for good

Despite her excitement and enthusiasm for acting, Heather Kristin struggled to get her foot in the door. After showing up to the casting director's office hopeful and ready to work (on numerous occasions), Kristin finally landed the SATC gig. "The crew was like family. We shared jokes, meals, and fashion tips," Kristin shared in her Glamour op-ed. But the seemingly safe and friendly environment quickly transformed into a misogynist and sexist place to work. "Some crew members cracked unprompted jokes about me having a boob job. (I didn't.)," she wrote. Worse, some suggested Kristin compromised herself for the SATC job. "(Again, I didn't.) After that, I didn't always want to come to work, but I needed the paycheck."

One incident, in particular, sent Kristin running not only from the set but from the entertainment industry as a whole. "I awoke to the sound of masking tape," Kristin recalled, as she detailed her experience of standing in during a scene in which Charlotte York visits her gynecologist. To ensure that the lighting was right, the director asked Kristin to lay down and place her feet into the stirrups.

"One of my feet had been taped to the stirrup and a crew member was taping the other, smiling and laughing. I was horrified," Kristin wrote. "Another crew member took photos of me in this position from the video monitor." Horrified by the experience, Kristin threw in the towel and decided to pursue another passion: writing. Now, she's a wife and mother, published writer, violin teacher, and mentor at Girls Write Now, a non-profit for at-risk teens.
