The Best Silhouettes For A Triangle Body Shape

If your wardrobe looks better in your closet than it does on you, it's likely that you're not opting for the right silhouettes to suit your unique frame. As Who What Wear detailed, most body shapes fall into one of four main categories: inverted triangle, rectangle, triangle, or hourglass. Those with a triangle body shape will have hips and thighs that are wider than their shoulders or bust, along with a defined waist. If you find that your body shape resembles the body shapes of celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and America Ferrera, the Nordstrom Trunk Club says that you're likely able to boast a triangle-shaped body.

To ensure that you are flaunting your body's best assets, Stitch Fix recommends opting for statement tops and dramatic accessories that draw the eye away from the bottom half of the body and towards the top half of the body. Since your top half is smaller than your bottom half, the Nordstrom Trunk Club says that it is important to add volume to your bust and shoulders with tops with puffy sleeves, folds of fabric in the front, bows, and other big and bold additions. Peplum and square-neck tops also work to accentuate your top half. When it comes to outfitting your bottom half, Who What Wear recommends avoiding low-rise jeans in favor of high-waisted jeans or pants with a slight flare. If you truly want to showcase your top half, grab a pair of high-waisted pants in a darker color.

Accessories can make all the difference

As far as dresses are concerned, the more dramatic, the better, according to Stitch Fix. Those with a triangle-shaped body can rock embellished necklines, dramatic sleeves, and A-line styles. Adding a belt in the mix can also work wonders to accentuate that waist that not many others can boast. As far as dress or skirt length is concerned, any hemline that starts below the knee will make your hips and thighs appear smaller. Make nearly every outfit work for your frame by pairing it with pointy-toed shoes that elongate your legs and statement necklaces and earrings that create more volume in the upper portion of the body (via Nordstrom Trunk Club).

Triangle-shaped bodies should avoid any item of clothing that fails to recognize the existence of a waist, like drop-waist dresses and low-rise jeans. Along the same lines, jackets that fail to meet the waist should be avoided at all costs. At the end of the day, flaunting a triangle-shaped body typically means drawing more attention to the shoulders and bust and less attention to the thighs and hips. With that being said, steering clear of colorful or embellished bottoms is the best way to ensure that you are drawing attention to all of the right places, according to Fashion Lady.
