The Real Reason Nicole Kidman And Lenny Kravitz Broke Off Their Engagement

Nicole Kidman has had quite an interesting love life. While many are familiar with her former relationship with Tom Cruise as well as her current marriage to country singer Keith Urban, many of the details pertaining to her other romantic relationships are less known (via Showbiz CheatSheet).

According to sources, after Kidman broke up with Cruise in 2001, she actually began dating none other than rock legend Lenny Kravitz in 2002 on the down-low. The two actually met and began dating in a way that is so cute, we could see Kidman starring in a rom-com about it.

According to People, Kravitz was apparently Kidman's landlord. That's right — she was renting an apartment from him. It was because of this that eagle-eyed members of the public began to spot the two together, but it was easily explainable due to living arrangements and Kidman's tendency to brush off their relationship as just a friendship. But then, things began to shift. An unknown source saw them together at a party at Tavern on the Green on Sept. 13, 2002, saying, "They were always touching each other." Another anonymous source said that they two were "gazing at each other all night long. [Kidman] was sitting on his lap, massaging his leg. They were eating off each other's plates," per People. And from here, things began to blossom into what would eventually turn into an engagement.

Nicole Kidman wasn't ready to be married to Lenny Kravitz

Surprised to hear that these two major A-Listers were engaged? So were we! But if you ask Nicole Kidman, it wasn't really a big deal at all.

According to an interview with Vanity Fair, Kidman was engaged to someone once during a time when she wasn't ready to be engaged. But she declined to reveal who this mystery suitor was. "It just wasn't right. I wasn't ready. We weren't ready," she explained. Kidman said that she often finds herself getting in and out of deep, passionate relationships. "I get engaged and I get married — that's my thing," she confessed. "I don't want to date. I'm interested in a very, very deep connection." Sleuthy fans feel quite confident that the fiancé in question was most certainly Lenny Kravitz — but regardless, the engagement was ultimately called off.

As of today, reports say that Kidman and Kravitz are still quite close. In fact, in a serendipitous chain of events, Kidman would end up starring alongside Kravitz's daughter, Zoe, in the super popular HBO series, "Big Little Lies" (via Digital Spy). "I thought it was very interesting that they ended up on the same show," Lenny Kravitz said on "Watch What Happens Live" with Andy Cohen. "And Zoe hadn't seen Nicole since she was younger, so it was beautiful that they got to know each other as adults and make this great show together," per People.
