Why MCU Actor Hailee Steinfeld Looks So Familiar

It's official: The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has moved to television. As reported by IndieWire, the franchise's first small-screen venture is called "Hawkeye." Jeremy Renner will once again play the role of Hawkeye, his character from "The Avengers," and there's also an exciting Marvel newcomer: 24-year-old Hailee Steinfeld.

This may be Steinfeld's first foray into the Marvel universe, but she'll probably look familiar to many viewers. That's because she's been crushing it on screen since she was a child.

Steinfeld's first credit was a small guest role on the TV series "Back to You" in 2007 (via IMDb). After appearing in several short films, the actor made a name for herself in a major way when she landed the starring role of Mattie Ross in the 2010 film "True Grit." Steinfeld starred alongside Hollywood vets Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin — and to say that she held her own would be an understatement.

At age 14, she received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, making her one of the youngest actors to be nominated for an Academy Award (via The Hollywood Reporter).

"It's something I dreamed about my whole life," Steinfeld told The Hollywood Reporter when news of her nomination broke in January 2011. "It's so amazing to finally be here."

Over the past decade, Steinfeld has kept up the momentum — and then some. She took on lead roles in "Ender's Game," "Romeo & Juliet," "Begin Again," "3 Days to Kill," and the "Pitch Perfect" film series. At the age of 20 she earned a Golden Globe nod in the category of Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy for her starring role in "The Edge of Seventeen" (via GoldenGlobes.com)

If you don't recognize her from the screen, chances are you've heard her music. "Pitch Perfect 2" (2015) gave Steinfeld the opportunity to showcase her singing chops. Less than a week after the film debuted, Steinfeld signed a deal with Republic Records, as reported by Billboard.

According to Republic Records, Steinfeld quickly became a multi-platinum selling artist. In 2017, she earned some accolades for her music, too. Steinfeld won "Best Push Artist" at the MTV EMAs and was named Musical.ly's "Top Covered Artist" at the Billboard Music Awards.
