The Exact Lip Color Tracee Ellis Ross Wears As Rainbow In Black-Ish

Fans were devastated when beloved sitcom "Black-ishcame to an end after seven successful years on the air. Although every member of the ensemble cast was a star, series leads Anthony Anderson (who played devoted dad Dre), and Tracee Ellis Ross (who played his wife, Rainbow), were clear standouts throughout the show's run. Ross's Rainbow proved to be a boundary-breaking sitcom character considering, as Today noted, she was a doctor, wife, mother, and always equal partner to her on-screen husband.

During an appearance on the "Can't Stop Watching" podcast, the actor gushed about how she "fell in love with the idea on 'Black-ish' that this was a couple that was in love with each other." Ross added, "This was an American family, but we were a Black family. We weren't a family that happened to be Black; we were a Black family. And those things were incredibly exciting to me." Clearly, playing Rainbow meant just as much to her as it did to everybody watching at home, who looked up to the character.

Aside from being a total badass and master multitasker, Rainbow also emerged as a style icon. If you're wondering which lipstick Ross rocked on the show, we've got you covered.

Rainbow's red lip was perfectly suited to her personality

Although she always had a lot on her plate, "Black-ish" fan favorite Rainbow was rarely spotted without a slick of classic red lipstick. According to makeup artist Brittany Cale, who shared the exact product used on actor Tracee Ellis Ross in a TikTok video, Rainbow typically wore MAC's iconic "Ruby Woo" lipstick on the hit show. Pick up the shade, which is described as a "very matte vivid blue-red," from their online store for $19. Funnily enough, although the color suits the character perfectly, the choice of lipstick might actually come from Ross herself. As the actor told the Los Angeles Times, "I've been wearing MAC's Ruby Woo lipstick since high school. If you look up the hashtag #redlipstick, I did a whole series on that."

She elaborated, "I mix the majority of my lipsticks with Ruby Woo. I don't like glosses. I don't like stains. I like full-on, old-school, completely opaque matte lipstick." Ross takes it so seriously she actually did her own lipstick on "Black-ish." As makeup artist Nadyne Hicks told The Cut, they typically used Ross's favorite Ruby Woo with a MAC lip pencil in Cherry (pick it up for $19 online, too) to get the desired effect.
