The Truth About Chloe Chrisley's Parents

Long-time fans of "Chrisley Knows Best" will know Chloe Chrisley as the beloved grandchild of Todd and Julie Chrisley, whose hilarious antics made the little girl a breakout star on the hit show. Adored and doted on as she is, Chloe is the picture of happiness. Although there was speculation that Todd and Julie had adopted their granddaughter, as The Cinemaholic points out, they were actually awarded full custody following ongoing issues with Chloe's birth parents. Per The Cinemaholic, Todd's estranged son Kyle Chrisley has struggled with bipolar disorder and substance abuse. His former partner, Angela Johnson, also alleged that he was physically abusive. When Kyle was arrested a year after Chloe's birth, following domestic violence allegations, Todd and Julie quickly filed to share custody of the little girl.

Despite his parents' good intentions, Kyle felt that his father was just using Chloe. "My dad showed no interest in Chloe at all until the show and until it was pointed out that having a mixed race child and getting her and all that would be good for his demographic," Kyle told the Daily Mail. "He didn't want to see her before then," he added. In 2016, the Cinemaholic reports that Todd and Julie were awarded full custody of Chloe following Angela's arrest for alleged Medicaid fraud.

Kyle Chrisley got his life back on track

According to Celeb Suburb, Chloe Chrisley's biological mother Angela Johnson keeps a low profile, and has limited social media presence. In 2015, she took to Twitter to share that she was working as a nurse. Prior to that, she'd dabbled in some modeling, judging by photos she uploaded to Twitter in 2014. Angela also seemed to have a close relationship with Chloe. Although she hasn't updated her Twitter page since 2016, the banner photo features a baby Chloe and her bio states that she has "a beautiful baby girl who [I] will do anything for and love dearly!!!!"

In 2016, Radar Online reported that Angela was arrested for a "false statement on an application for Medicaid assistance." Ever since, she seems to have dropped off the public's radar, especially after Todd and Julie took full custody of Chloe. Thankfully, Chloe's father Kyle Chrisley is on the mend after an ongoing battle with addiction. Per Life & Style, Kyle reconciled with father Todd Chrisley in 2019, admitting that he hadn't "been the best dad to Chloe." At the time, he penned an emotional Facebook tribute to his parents that thanked them for looking after his daughter while he got his life back on track. These days, Life & Style reports that Kyle is happy and settled with new wife Ashleigh Nelson, whom he wed in 2021. Though Kyle no longer has custody of Chloe, he's happy to still be a part of her life.

Kyle Chrisley spends plenty of time with his daughter nowadays

Thankfully, since reconciling with the rest of the family, Kyle Chrisley has been working hard to mend his relationship with daughter Chloe. The dedicated father frequently shares photos of his little girl on Instagram. From simply pointing out how cute she is to smiling selfies of the duo hanging out together, it's clear Kyle is focused on being the best dad he can be. In fact, on her 7th birthday, Kyle described Chloe as "the biggest blessing in my life!"

He's also making an effort to fix his relationship with Todd Chrisley, too, posting a sweet Father's Day message thanking the "Chrisley Knows Best" star "for never giving up on me and for always having my back." Fans of the hit reality show are hugely supportive in the comments, encouraging Kyle to keep moving forward and even noting how much he and Chloe look alike. It's a far cry from 2019, when the troubled young man was arrested for drug possession and told Radar Online he had no relationship with his family.

Moreover, in a 2021 interview with In Touch Weekly, Kyle's siblings Chase and Savannah Chrisley confirmed he's "sober" and "doing really well." They shared, "Kyle came back to our family and kind of owned up to his part in everything that he said and did and apologized for that ... At the end of the day, he's family. We love him."

Does Chloe Chrisley call her grandparents Mom and Dad?

When Kyle Chrisley accused his father, Todd, of using Chloe for ratings, the "Chrisley Knows Best" star shot back that the little girl is "family," per Us Weekly. Todd also argued, "We are glad that the world gets to see such a beautiful child grow, explore and come into herself so brilliantly through love and respect." Fans have been concerned about the lines being blurred by Chloe calling her grandparents Mom and Dad, per TV Shows Ace, but, according to Todd, they're all finding their way together.

He told the Tennessean, in 2018, "Chloe calls me 'Papa' sometimes and she calls me 'Dad' sometimes. And she calls Julie 'Mimi' or 'Mama.'" However, despite fans' protestations, the "Chrisley Knows Best" star clarified, "Through our child psychologist, they told us not to correct that. Let her find her own natural rhythm. Let her relate to us on the terms that she chooses to relate to us on." He also confirmed Chloe knows who her real parents are, so there's no confusion.

During a 2021 appearance on "Tamron Hall," Todd shared how raising Chloe has helped him and wife Julie open their eyes to the greater issue of racism in America. In fact, Todd opined, "I think that God gave us Chloe because we needed to be changed. We needed to be able to use our platform to help those who may not have a voice."
