What Sort Of Relationship Does John Legend Have With Blake Shelton?

Over the last decade, "The Voice" became the most-watched primetime network show (via Access Online). With 21 seasons under its belt, we've seen talented judges come and go throughout the years. From Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus, to Usher and Alicia Keys. The one constant viewers have been able to count on during each season is country music legend Blake Shelton, who's been a fan-favorite coach since the show's conception. With an unmatched track record of eight wins, there are no signs of Shelton slowing down anytime soon. Whenever Shelton does decide to leave "The Voice," those will be some tough shoes to fill.

Alongside Shelton, the 2021 judges Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Ariana Grande made up the Season 21 all-star coaching panel, as noted by Parade. Another particularly beloved judge is Legend, who's taken "The Voice" fandom by storm ever since earning his first win with Maelyn Jarmon in Season 16, per Gold Derby

Known for his calm and collected judging style, Legend brings a unique energy to "The Voice." Another reason that fans particularly love Legend's presence is due to his special "bromance" with his country music co-star Shelton.

John Legend and Blake Shelton have a friendly rivalry

Since John Legend joined "The Voice" back in 2019, he and fellow judge Blake Shelton have formed a close friendship."Not only have the become surprisingly close, their significant others, Gwen [Stefani] and Chrissy [Teigen], have really hit it off too," a source shared with Suggest. "Blake and John are both chill, so it's no surprise they've become real friends."

To solidify their bromance even further, the two judges performed the song "Just the Two of Us" in the Season 20 finale of "The Voice," with a wholesome montage of moments from their friendship playing in the background (via Wide Open Country).

That's not to say that Legend and Shelton haven't had their fair share of playful rivalry over the years. After all, these two judges are competitors at the end of the day. Season 16 of "The Voice" concluded with talent Maelyn Jarmon being crowned victor of the competition series, marking Legend's first win out of the gate during his very first season as a coach, per USA Today. Following Legend's impressive Season 16 triumph, Shelton was captured yelling "I am the King of the Voice," as noted by Cheat Sheet. Legend immediately called him out on his proclamation, rebutting with, "That's a lot of arrogance from someone who just lost "The Voice."'
