The One Prank Will Smith Pulled On Jada Pinkett Smith That Crossed The Line

Very few celebrity couples in Hollywood are able to go the distance. Per Brightside, some of these power couples include Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham, and Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. Will and Jada first met back in the 1990s's, when Jada, a burgeoning star herself, auditioned to play Will's girlfriend on "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," according to Us Weekly. Although that role ultimately went to "Boyz in the Hood" actress Nia Long, Jada soon won the part of playing Smith's girlfriend IRL.

Per Us Weekly, Will and Jada wed in December 1997 and have stayed together ever since. Will previously married Sheree Zampino, and the pair split in 1995 after welcoming a son named Trey. "Divorce was the worst thing in my adult life," Smith revealed in a 2020 episode of Jada's show, "Red Table Talk" (via Us Weekly). "Divorce was the ultimate failure for me. I've been hurt a lot in my adult life, but I don't think anything touches the failure of getting divorced from my 2-year-old son's mother." Will and Jada might be in it for the long haul, but the pair have still weathered their fair share of obstacles, as evidenced by the revelation that Jada had a tryst with August Alsina, per Entertainment Tonight. "We ride together, we die together, bad marriage for life," the Smiths famously joked on "Red Table Talk" (via Us Weekly), speaking on the state of their marriage.

Will Smith pranked Jada Pinkett-Smith in front of his grandmother

Will Smith is many things: actor, writer, director, and rapper. But the superstar has one more hyphenate to add to the list: practical joker. Will been open about his love of pranks in the past, and even spoke to host Graham Norton on "The Graham Norton Show" about how much fun he had playing jokes on his "Collateral Beauty" co-star Naomie Harris. "What's funny is that Naomie is so serious and so focused on set that she never sees the practical joke coming. I mean I had a thing where I had a little bit of an injury I had 'dog jaw,' you ever heard of it?" Smith asked Norton. After Graham confirmed he had not, Smith leaned in and barked in Norton's face.

Smith played a much more elaborate joke on his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith in the early days of their relationship. Per Tiktoker @CelebrityMemoirBookClub, Jada had recently filmed a graphic sex scene in the movie "Jason's Lyric" shortly after she and Will began dating. Naturally, the first time that Jada went to meet Will's grandmother, he arranged it so that he and his grandmother would be watching the sex scene at the very moment his then-girlfriend walked in. "When [Jada] walked in, my grandmother was in the middle of the scene and she looked up and said to Jada, 'When I was growing up people didn't have to take their clothes off to make a movie," Smith recalled, per the Independent.
