Best Dressed At 2022 Critics Choice Awards

Hot on the heels of the Screen Actors Guild Awards came the Critics Choice Awards and the drool-worthy fashion to go with it. Sure, we love seeing our favorite stars get recognized for their work — "Succession" and "Ted Lasso!" — but we'd be lying if we said we tuned in for the statues to be handed out. Instead, the red carpet stole our award for featuring the most exciting moments of the night.

From Serena Williams, who was on hand at the 2022 ceremony because "King Richard," the film based on her life with her sister Venus and her father, was nominated for several awards, to "House of Gucci" star Lady Gaga, we couldn't take our eyes off of the sublime and shocking looks the stars rocked for the Critics Choice Awards (via ET Online). A few trends that stood out: Sparkly, silver gowns and revealing undergarments like the see-through bustier the forever youthful Halle Berry chose to accept the SeeHer Award. And, um, were those pasties that Lady Gaga was wearing (via People)?

Plus, there was one look that broke away from the trends of the evening and truly wowed fans.

Halle Berry brought it

Halle Berry, how do you do it? At 55 years old, the actress is still one of the most youthful-looking stars on the red carpet. Case in point: She rocked a velvet tux with a sheer bustier top (via People). The simple ensemble left us bowing down to the star, whose short hairstyle helped to complete the ageless look.

Of course, it wasn't what Berry was wearing Sunday night that everyone was talking about — it was her SeeHer Award acceptance speech (via Variety). At one point in the powerful speech, the actress said, "This is why I am so grateful to be standing and living in this moment where women are standing up and we are telling our own stories...We will write, we will produce, we will direct, and if we're brave enough, will star in it all at the same time. We will use our emotional intelligence and we will tell stories that don't fit preconceived notions."

Lady Gaga left fans talking

Okay, let's talk about Lady Gaga's dress for the 2022 Critics Choice Awards. As Yahoo! notes, the singer donned luxury pasties to complement her look, which everyone was talking about online. Not surprisingly was that the "House of Gucci" actress paired her risque accessory with a custom Gucci gown in a honey-like hue. Her buzzworthy attire was completed by a sheer, lace turtleneck garment.

Meanwhile, Gaga shared her other red carpet look from that same day on Instagram. This glam gown was worn for the Baftas and proves the star can pull off both classic elegance and daring fashion — within 24 hours!

Kristen Stewart stunned like a princess

Kristen Stewart, who was nominated for playing Princess Diana in "Spencer," was looking positively royal in her Dolce & Gabbana gown when she stepped out on the CCA red carpet Sunday night. Elle reports the nude dress was paired with Messika jewelry and Jimmy Choo heels and was meant to conjure up vibes of Old Hollywood glam.

Twitter users were big fans of the classic look, with one person calling Stewart's attire iconic. Another admirer tweeted, "the dress. the makeup. THE HAIR. everything about this is look is FIRE. wow kristen stewart, WOW." And as Hello! Canada opined in a tweet, Princess Diana would have loved the star's dress.

Serena Williams was a winner

Our favorite look of the night is without question that of the immensely talented Williams, who wore a body-hugging Atelier Versace gown for the evening. The extremely flattering dress was accented by a flowing train that left jaws on the ground. As Hello! reports, this was the same designer behind the tennis star's wedding gowns from 2017.

Williams posted a video of herself in the show-stopping gown to her Instagram, where fans went gaga over the look. "Talk about a serve," one follower joked, while someone else commented about the athlete's look, "The bell of the ball." Others weighed in with compliments like "stunning" and "fabulous" which pretty much sums up our feelings exactly.

Meanwhile, if you want to see more shots of this stunning gown, Williams also posted a reel of behind-the-scenes images from her getting ready session as well as her finished look.

Issa Rae was a ray of sunshine

Issa Rae, who presented Berry's award Sunday night, was a breath of fresh air on the red carpet in her red, flowing gown adorned with a floral motif. The Carolina Herrera dress moved like no other, and Rae had a beaming smile to match.

Over on Twitter, fans called the floral gown "gorgeous" and a "favorite," while someone else noticed that the actress looked lit up inside. Could her recent nuptials to Louis Diame have something to do with that contagious smile (via Town & Country)?

Meanwhile, as PopSugar notes, the "Insecure" star was one of two big names donning a bright scarlet hue, keeping good company with another A-lister who is often on best dressed lists. We're talking about Selena Gomez, who chose a simple Louis Vuitton design featuring a cape for the Critics Choice Awards.

We would like to thank Rae and Gomez for spicing things up! Well done, ladies.
