What Tom Holland Regrets About His Performance On Lip Sync Battle

British actor Tom Holland, who shot to fame after being cast as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at 19, has been branching out in a variety of film genres. Most recently starring in "Uncharted" and "Cherry," the now-25-year-old actor has been adding more heavyweight films to his repertoire. Before his transition to movies, Holland started out in musical theatre. Notably, he starred as titular role Billy Elliot in "Billy Elliot the Musical" for two years, from 2008 to 2010 (via The Guardian). He can tap dance, perform acrobatics, and is trained in ballet – all things that came in very handy when he was auditioning for the MCU (via GQ).

Moreover, Holland has caused many laughs (and stress to his co-stars) over the years by accidentally spoiling upcoming films, in particular the "Spider-Man" franchise (via Insider). Charming, sweet, and boyishly good-looking, his star is definitely on the rise. However, he is perhaps more known amongst his fans for something a little more niche — a lip sync performance.

Tom Holland really committed to his role as Rihanna

When he appeared on "Lip Sync Battle" in 2017, Tom Holland brought the house down with his rendition of superstar and makeup mogul Rihanna's "Umbrella." Dressed in all-black attire, fishnet tights, and a wig inspired by Rihanna's own music video look, Holland started off with a tap routine to Gene Kelly's "Singin' In The Rain" before ripping off his suit to transform into a true pop star (via YouTube). He competed against co-star Zendaya, who performed Bruno Mars' "24K Magic."

His battle was met with thunderous applause and is beloved by fans even today, five years later. However, he did open up about the one thing he regrets during his now famous performance. Holland revealed that he was originally asked to perform the routine in heels but declined, feeling he couldn't perform as well in them. The actor went on to say that he should have taken the opportunity to dance in heels, stating, "I wish I had now. That would have shut things down" (via People).

He is currently dating co-star Zendaya

Since at least last year, Tom Holland has been dating actress and "Spider-Man" co-star Zendaya. Although they originally intended to keep it a secret, Holland and Zendaya were caught kissing in a car, forcing them to address their relationship publicly (via Glamour). As well as playing MJ in the "Spider-Man" franchise, Zendaya is known for playing the role of Rue Bennett, a troubled, drug-addicted teenager in HBO's "Euphoria."

She won an Emmy for the role in 2020, making her the youngest winner of the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series award (via Vanity Fair). Constantly supporting each other, Holland and Zendaya have made it clear that they are a unit, whether that's through commenting on each other's posts or stopping interviews to watch each other walk the red carpet (via Elle). We love their partnership and hope it continues to thrive. We also wouldn't complain about another lip sync battle, either!
