Others like Jack Deveraux and Jennifer Horton and Ciara Brady and Ben Weston have also stolen the spotlight, which just proves the romances have been iconic on the sudser for years and viewers have been sucked into all of their juicy moments.

One couple that "Days of Our Lives" fans aren't soon going to forget is Carrie Brady and Austin Reed. In the 1990s, Carrie and Austin were one of the show's most popular pairings. Thanks to a lot of drama surrounding the couple's relationship, due to Carrie's own sister, Sami (Alison Sweeney), viewers were glued to their TV screens, per TV Source Magazine.

Carrie and Austin first met in 1992

Longtime "Days of Our Lives" viewers may remember that Carrie Brady (Christie Clark) is the daughter of Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) and Anna DiMera (Leann Hunley) (via Soaps In Depth). However, Carrie built a strong bond to her stepmother, Marlena Evans, as a child. Carrie first met Austin Reed (then Patrick Muldoon) as a young adult in 1992 when he moved into the apartment next to hers. Austin was a young and fit boxer who instantly captured Carrie's attention (via Soap Opera Digest).

It was later revealed that Austin was the brother of Billie Reed (Lisa Rinna) and the son of Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow). Carrie became friendly with Billie, and the two women moved in together. Of course, this meant that Carrie and Austin saw each other more often. While Carrie and Austin began dating and falling in love, his career as a boxer took a toll on their romance. Although things were rocky, it wasn't until Carrie suffered a horrific attack and had acid thrown in her face that things went sour for the couple, per Soaps in Depth.

At the time, Roman had told Carrie that if she didn't call things off with Austin, he would be forced to arrest him. So, she pushed Austin away, despite her love for him (via Soap Central). During this time, Carrie's sister, Sami Brady, had developed a huge crush on Austin and vowed to steal him away from her big sis. When Carrie and Austin split, Sami wasted no time trying to win Austin's heart.

Sami and Lucas tried everything to break up Carrie and Austin

When Carrie Brady's younger sister, Sami Brady, returned to "Days of Our Lives," viewers soon realized that there would be plenty of drama. Sami fell hard for Austin Reed, and wanted him for herself. So, when Carrie and Austin split, Sami began to get closer to him. Meanwhile, Austin's half-brother, Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo), had his sights set on Carrie. Sami and Lucas decided to team up and try to sever the bond between Carrie and Austin so that they could both be with the objects of their affection (via Soap Central).

Carrie decided to have plastic surgery on her face in hopes of getting rid of the scars from the acid attack, and after the surgery, Carrie and Austin reunited. This was despite Sami and Lucas' attempts to keep them apart, so Sami and Lucas leaned on one another and even got intimate. Although Carrie and Austin seemed happy together, Sami would stop at nothing to get what she wanted and eventually came up with a plan to drug Austin and make him believe that they had slept together, per Soaps in Depth. Austin didn't want to hurt Carrie and kept his night with Sami a secret.

Carrie and Austin eventually got engaged and began planning for their wedding.

Carrie left Austin at the altar when she learned of Sami's pregnancy

Once Sami Brady realized that Austin Reed didn't want her and would always be in love with her sister, Carrie Brady, she left Salem. However, she didn't stay away long. On the day of Austin and Carrie's wedding, "Days of Our Lives" viewers watched as Sami crashed the nuptials to drop a bombshell. Sami announced that she was pregnant with Austin's child, but that was just the beginning of the drama, per Soaps in Depth. Carrie left Austin at the altar and he began to attend to Sami, whom he believed was carrying his child. Sami later gave birth to her son, Will, and nearly died in the process.

As Austin and Sami grew closer, Austin couldn't get over his love for Carrie. When Will was kidnapped, Austin and Sami were forced to get married in France to regain custody of the little boy, per Soap Central. Carrie was saddened to watch the love of her life marry her own sister. However, when he returned to Salem, Austin had the marriage annulled and reconciled with Carrie.

Carrie got her revenge on Sami and married Austin

In 1997, Austin Reed (Austin Peck) accidentally ran over Sami Brady with his car. Sami was badly injured, and when she awoke, she seemed to have amnesia. She didn't remember anything about her life or her sister Carrie Brady's relationship with Austin. Sami and Carrie's family decided that Austin should play along and pretend to be Sami's husband. Eventually, Sami regained her memory but kept it a secret out of fear of losing Austin (via Soap Central). During this time, Sami and Austin grew close and Carrie leaned on Dr. Mike Horton. Austin had fallen for Sami during her bout of amnesia and the two were set to be officially married when Carrie got her wedding day revenge.

"Days of Our Lives" fans watched as the drama unfolded and Carrie found out that Sami had been lying about Will's paternity. It was discovered that Lucas Horton was actually Will's biological father and Carrie interrupted Sami and Austin's wedding to share the news with everyone in Salem, per Soaps in Depth. Austin was heartbroken that Will wasn't his son, and that Sami was faking her amnesia. He eventually cut ties with Sami, and Austin and Carrie immediately reconciled and got married (via Soap Opera Digest).

Carrie and Austin remarried and welcomed a son named Noah

Although Carrie Brady and Austin Reed got married, their relationship was still rocky. Austin still loved Will and spent lots of time with the little boy, meaning he was seeing Sami Brady during the process. Carrie was jealous of the time that Austin was spending with Sami and Will and began to lean on her old friend, Dr. Mike Horton. Eventually, Carrie began having feelings for Mike and the two had an affair. A year after splitting with Austin, Carrie and Mike got married and the couple moved to Israel (via Soap Central).

Carrie resurfaced in 2005 when she returned to Salem and reconnected with Austin. Of course, Sami Brady still schemed to keep them apart. Eventually, Carrie and Austin worked through their issues and got back together. They remarried and moved to Switzerland together. In 2011, Carrie and Austin returned to Salem so that she could put her lawyer skills to use and defend John Black. During this time, Carrie worked closely with Sami's ex-husband, Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering), and the two developed feelings for one another. Carrie was caught between Austin and Rafe, per Soaps in Depth.

Carrie later found out that she was pregnant with Austin's child and chose to move back to Switzerland with her longtime love. According to Soap Opera Digest, Carrie and Austin later welcomed a son named Noah Reed. The pair were last seen in Prague during the "Days of Our Lives" spin-off series "Beyond Salem" in 2021.
