Something Is Coming That Could Damage Meghan And Harry's Reputation
Royal biographer, Tom Bower, is writing a new scathing biography aimed at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The new book, "Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors" paints the royal couple, who made an abrupt exit from the U.K. back in 2020, specifically Meghan, as divisive and demanding.
When asked about what his hopes for the book are once published he is quoted in an article for Newsweek saying he "wouldn't be sad" if the book were to "hasten" the couple's "downward trend," noting the couple is "a real threat to the royal family."
In the book, excerpts of which were recently published by The Times, Bower also quoted Vanity Fair contributing editor, Sam Kashner. Bower quotes him as saying that he felt "manipulated" by Meghan while working with her in an interview in 2017. This information seems to be inaccurate. The editor, himself has since chimed in to clarify his statement, and corrected the misinterpretation by saying that he found Meghan "exceptionally warm and gracious" and that Bower "didn't convey my admiration and respect for Meghan Markle."
The author has a history of disdain for some royals
It's strange for a royal biographer to be so forthcoming about their intentions of causing intentional harm to a royal family member's reputation, but Tom Bower has a long history of negatively portraying other members of the royal family as well.
In Bower's book "Rebel Prince," his anger was directed at the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles. According to Newsweek, Bower claims that his intention in writing "Rebel Prince" was to discover how Prince Charles "manipulated those levers of power." In his research discovered that "His loyalty, like his attention span, is limited," and "Like some feudal lord, he presides at the center of a court with no place for democracy or dissenting views."
According to The Guardian, Prince Charles struggles with his place in the monarchy. In 2004, he was quoted as saying that he finds his role as Prince of Wales to be "utter hell" seemingly putting him very out of touch with his disproportionate privilege and status. The truth is that Prince Charles has always led a very lavish lifestyle, and with that comes an intense amount of scrutiny for his public comments about said lifestyle.
Tom Bower seems to have his own agenda when it comes to chronicling the lives of royal family members, and while he claims that the reputation of the Sussexes is trending downward, the very act of choosing to write this biography would suggest otherwise — we're just saying.
Prince Harry won't allow his family to be hurt by the media
Biographer Tom Bower publicly defaming Meghan Markle and Prince Harry wouldn't be the first time that the media blatantly interfered with the royal family in a purposeful and harmful way. Unfortunately, the royals have been a scapegoat of sorts in this area.
Celebrity photographers and biographers' jobs bank on the ability to discuss or capture a moment in the life of a public person. One need only look at the death of Princess Diana to recognize the dire consequences that can cause (via Reader's Digest). The incessant pursuit of Diana's car by the paparazzi led to the deadly crash in Paris that took her life back in 1997.
It's something Prince Harry is unwilling to allow to be replicated. He has stood up time and time again for his wife's and family's safety, going so far as to leave his royal duties and his native country. He acknowledged to the British press that while the "UK is [his] home," he had to remove his family from the situation because he "could see where this was headed," (via Marie Claire).
Prince Harry has repeatedly stood up to the media to protect his family
As Prince Harry told the press (via Marie Claire), he repeatedly "asked for calm from the British tabloids" to no avail.
The Duke of Sussex has taken legal action against British newspapers before and has stated he would like to help reform social media. "I was really surprised to witness how my story had been told one way, my wife's story had been told one way, and then our union sparked something that made the telling of that story very different, " said Prince Harry (via Vanity Fair). "That false narrative became the mothership for all of the harassment. It wouldn't have even begun had our story just been told truthfully."
Whether anything will come of Bower's new royal biography remains to be seen, but it's likely that the royal will likely take a stand if it proves to be as inflammatory as promised.
