The Audiobook You Never Knew Kate Winslet Narrated

Kate Winslet has narrated several children's books

The most notable audiobook narrated by Kate Winslet is the popular children's novel "Matilda" by British writer Roald Dahl (via BuzzFeed). You might recognize this title from the 1996 film adaptation starring Mara Wilson, but the book it's based on reached popularity far before the movie's release. 

Published in 1988, the story follows Matilda, a young girl who discovers she has special powers. Faced with oblivious parents at home and a horrible headmistress at school, book-loving Matilda must put her newfound powers to the test (via Scholastic).

The "Matilda" audiobook was released in 2013, but it wasn't Winslet's first venture into narrating children's books. She also narrated Émile Zola's "Thérèse Raquin" and several installments of Andy Stanton's "Mr. Gum" books (per Book Riot). Since then, she has also narrated Dahl's "The Twits, the Minpins & the Magic Finger."

Audiobooks aren't the only thing Kate Winslet has voiced

It may be surprising that the legendary Kate Winslet has narrated several children's audiobooks, but this wasn't the actress' first experience in children's media. 

In 2006, Winslet voiced the female protagonist of DreamWorks' "Flushed Away," an animated film following a domesticated rat's misadventures in the sewers (per IMDb). Also featuring the voices of Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, and Jean Reno, this animated film received solid marks from both audiences and critics, who deemed it an enjoyable watch for children and adults alike (per Rotten Tomatoes).

According to IMDb, Winslet has also contributed her vocal talents to a few other films, including 2001's "Christmas Carol: The Movie" and the nature documentaries "Deep Sea" and "Pride."

With her sheer acting talent and interest in voice acting, it's no wonder that Winslet's career advanced into audiobook narration.
