Don't Count On Prince Harry Reuniting With King Charles During His U.S. State Visit
When family comes to visit, hosting can become a whole ordeal. However, if you're Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and King Charles III, the "whole ordeal" might make even a catch-up coffee impossible. While Charles and Camilla are expected to visit the nation's capital at the end of the month, it's unlikely that Charles will see his estranged son on the trip.
With over 2,300 miles between Washington D.C., and Santa Barbara, it would be understandably difficult to swing a trip for tea amid King Charles' diplomatic responsibilities. Prince Harry made the trek for a rare appearance in the nation's capital on March 31 for a keynote conversation on public safety, but a return trip during his father's brief visit is unlikely. Sources told People, "When you're talking about a state visit, every minute is accounted for — especially when it's the King traveling as the invited guest of a head of state." The sources further suggested that there was a mutual understanding between the father and son regarding the logistical issues, adding, "Harry knows how things are and wouldn't ask for that either under these circumstances."
King Charles and Queen Camilla's State Visit is meant to "celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the UK and the US, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence" per the royal family's official announcement on X. President Donald Trump reportedly has high hopes for the meeting, announcing in a post to Truth Social that was shared on IG, "I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect." Prince Harry might have reasons to be jealous regarding his father's lack of time to spend with his family.
Prince Harry is trying to be considerate of King Charles' schedule
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and their two children have been living in their $14.65 million mansion in Santa Barbara, California, since July 2020. While trips back to the U.K. are rare, the longstanding feud between Prince Harry and King Charles III has made any family reunions brief.
Despite the seemingly petty reason the prince had been keeping his kids away from his father, Harry told The Guardian in September 2025 that his most recent visit to the U.K. had "brought [the possibility of bringing his children to his homeland] closer." The father and son met for the first time in 19 months for tea in London during Harry's visit, a subtle sign that the king's 2024 cancer diagnosis was opening the door for reconciliation.
Amid trying to reestablish tarnished family bonds, the lack of flexibility in Charles' schedule could be a major disappointment to a son trying to reconnect, but Harry appears to understand that diplomatic responsibilities must always come first. This consideration seemingly goes both ways, as the royal family also maintained their distance during Harry's "tight" trial schedule amid his January court case against Associated Newspapers.Meghan's seven-word reaction to the duke's U.K. visit also might hint that she's in support of the reconciliation.
