16 Times Taylor Swift Made History
At this point, it's nearly impossible to go anywhere or do anything without hearing Taylor Swift's name in some regard. A fan of magazines? Swift's face has graced more than you could count (and no, that's not an exaggeration). Do you have a music streaming subscription? Find us a chart or playlist without Swift on it — we'll wait. Oh, you like to watch American football? You'll probably end up spotting Swift in the crowd at some point, since she married a Kansas City Chiefs player.
All that to say, Swift has accomplished so much over the years that, until you take a step back and really look at how she's revolutionized aspects of the music industry, it's easy to forget just how much history she's made. These 16 historic records aren't even Swift's full list of milestones, but they're enough to get the picture: Swift really is that girl.
The youngest performer to write a No. 1 country hit
Taylor Swift is one of those artists who doesn't stick to one genre (for those who need an explanation of every Swift era, we've got you covered). As a teenager in the early 2000s, Swift moved to Nashville and signed to Big Machine Records as a country artist. Her debut self-titled album was released in 2006 and featured hit songs like "Tim McGraw," "Teardrops on My Guitar," and "Our Song."
"Our Song," in particular, was a massive success. Released as a radio single in 2007, the track immediately hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Swift, who was 17 at the time and wrote the song for a high school talent show, became the youngest artist to single-handedly write and perform a country chart-topper.
"The song 'Our Song,' which I still love so much, it's all about this romance, and this relationship," Swift told The New York Times in 2026. She also mentioned, "I have this very strong opinion that when you're young, you feel things on such an intense and detailed level."
The youngest person to win Album of the Year (at the time)
Taylor Swift's second album, "Fearless" (2008), was another instant critical and commercial success. Featuring chart-topping songs like "Fearless," "Love Story," and "You Belong with Me," Swift's follow-up album delivered more country-pop than straight-up country, focusing primarily on love, teenage romance, and general whimsy.
"Fearless" won Album of the Year (and Best Country Album) at the 52nd Grammy Awards in 2010. At the time, Swift, who was 20 years old, was the youngest artist to win such an award. Swift's record was later broken by then 18-year-old Billie Eilish, who won AOTY at the 62nd Grammy Awards in 2020 for "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?"
"I just hope that you know how much this means to me," Swift said during her GRAMMYs acceptance speech. "My dad and my little brother are losing their minds in the living room right now."
The youngest artist to win Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards
The Country Music Association Awards (also referred to as "Country Music's Biggest Night") have been held annually since 1967. As of 2026, Swift has been nominated for 28 CMA Awards and has won 12. She first accepted the Horizon Award in 2007, now called New Artist of the Year, for her self-titled debut album.
"Fearless" dominated the 43rd CMA Awards in 2009, with Swift taking home four of the biggest trophies that night: Music Video of the Year for "Love Story," Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year. Swift, who was a few weeks shy of 20 years old, became the youngest artist to be nominated for and subsequently win EOTY.
"I will never forget this moment because in this moment, everything that I have ever wanted has just happened to me," Swift tearfully said as she accepted the night's biggest award (via YouTube).
The artist with the most awarded country album of all time
"Fearless" won a lot more than a couple of Grammys and CMA Awards. It remains the most awarded country album of all time as of this writing (FYI, we're talking about the original work, not "Fearless (Taylor's Version)," which Swift pulled from major award eligibility).
Here's a mostly complete breakdown, give or take a few recognitions: Swift's sophomore album took home four Grammys, multiple CMA Awards, one Academy of Country Music Award, five American Music Awards, two Canadian Country Music Association Awards, one Sirius XM Indie Award, and one Teen Choice Award. Several songs also received individual BMI Country Awards. Furthermore, the album's accompanying music videos and Swift's general artistry won awards, too.
"To me fearless isn't not having fears, it's not that you're not afraid of anything. I think that being fearless is having a lot of fears, but you jump anyway [sic]," Swift reportedly once said (via Channel Kindness).
The first (and only) person to receive the Billboard's Woman of the Decade Award
Since 2007, Billboard's Women in Music event has annually honored artists who have made a particularly substantial impact on the music industry and society as a whole. In 2026, Zara Larsson, Kehlani, Tate McRae, and Ella Langley were some of the honorees, while HUNTR/X took home the coveted Women (Woman) of the Year Award.
In 2019, Taylor Swift received an honorable award at the Billboard Women in Music event: the Woman of the Decade Award. To date, Swift remains the only person to have received it. She previously won Woman of the Year in 2011 and 2014.
"Thank you for a magnificent, happy-free, confused, sometimes lonely but mostly golden decade," Swift concluded her 15-minute acceptance speech (via Billboard). "I'm honored to be here tonight. I feel very lucky to be with you. Thank you so much."
The most awarded artist in American Music Award history
The American Music Awards have honored musicians through an annual public vote since 1974 (with some gap years here and there, like 2023 and 2024). Before Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson had the most AMA wins. The King of Pop earned 26 awards between 1980 and 2009, winning eight in 1984 and four posthumously.
If you think 26 AMAs is a lot, just wait until you find out how many Swift has accumulated since 2008: a whopping 40 awards, making her by far the most awarded artist in AMA history. Swift's AMA highlights include seven Artist of the Year wins (2009, 2011, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022), four Favorite Country Album wins (2009, 2011, 2013, 2022), and one Artist of the Decade win in 2019.
Interestingly, Swift was nominated for eight AMAs in 2026, but didn't win any of them. She did not attend the event.
The artist with the most No. 1 records on the US Digital Songs chart
The US Digital Songs chart, also called the Digital Song Sales chart, has been published weekly by Billboard since 2005. As the name suggests, the chart tracks the most downloaded songs in the United States (via a streaming service or otherwise).
In 2025, Swift's "The Fate of Ophelia" spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the chart. At the time of writing, Swift has hit No. 1 three times in 2026 with three different songs: "The Fate of Ophelia," as already discussed, "Opalite," and "I Knew It, I Knew You."
These mentions are a tiny fraction of Swift's history with the Digital Songs chart. Swift actually holds the record for the most No. 1 songs, with 31 tracks in total. This distinction was honored by the Guinness World Records before the release of "I Knew It, I Knew You." Nicki Minaj previously held the record.
The artist with the highest one-day streaming album on Spotify
Pepperidge Farm remembers when Taylor Swift pulled all her music from Spotify in 2014 and kept it off the service for several years. Since her return to the platform in 2017, though, Swift has remained one of the most-followed and listened-to artists worldwide. At the time of writing, she has approximately 100 million monthly listeners and is the most-streamed female artist, a record in itself.
Naturally, Swift's later albums have all had very successful first-day streams on Spotify. While her 12th album, "The Life of a Showgirl" (2025), garnered approximately 250 million streams on its first day, Swift actually set another record with her previous one, "The Tortured Poets Department." Swift's 11th album, released in April 2024, garnered over 300 million streams within its first 24 hours.
Two of Swift's other albums, "Midnights" (2022) and "1989 (Taylor's Version") (2023), hold third and fourth place with roughly 185 million and 176 million first single-day streams, respectively.
The only woman to be named TIME Person of the Year twice
The stunning transformation of Taylor Swift is a lengthy one filled with many career highlights, including two TIME Person of the Year awards. Swift isn't the only person to receive the title multiple times, but she's the only female — and non-politician — to be honored more than once.
Swift was first named TIME's Person of the Year in 2017 as a member of "The Silence Breakers," a group of women who facilitated the #MeToo movement and spoke out about their experiences. Swift was then specifically named Person of the Year in 2023 for her significant contributions to music, culture, society, and the global economy.
"Over the years, I've learned I don't have the time or bandwidth to get pressed about things that don't matter," Swift mentioned during her 2023 TIME profile. "Life is short. Have adventures. Me locking myself away in my house for a lot of years—I'll never get that time back."
The longest song to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100
Nowadays, the average song is roughly 3 minutes long. There's no time limit to songs, though; they can be as short as 30 seconds or longer than 10 minutes. Some iconic longer-than-average songs include The Beatles' "Hey Jude," Elton John's "Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding," and Pink Floyd's "Echoes."
At the time of writing, Taylor Swift's longest song is "All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version), which, as the name states, comes out to a little over 10 minutes. While Swift's best and worst songs depend on one's taste, the track still holds the record of being the longest song to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Guinness World Records certified the song in 2021.
"The 10-minute version of 'All Too Well' is what was originally written for the song before I had to cut it down to a normal-length song," Swift explained during an interview on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." "Because 10 minutes is absurd. That's an absurd length of time for a song."
The artist with the most MTV Video Music Awards
The MTV Video Music Awards, commonly shortened to the VMAs, have become another annual awards ceremony that many look forward to. Established in 1984, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, and Herbie Hancock were some of the first celebrities to take home a Moonman (now Moon Person). Fast-forward a couple of decades; in 2023, Taylor Swift became the highest-awarded female musician in one night, with nine VMAs.
At the time of writing, Swift holds another record: She's one of two artists (the other being Beyoncé) who have acquired the most wins. Swift has accepted 30 VMAs between 2009 and 2024, with nine pending nominations for the 2026 MTV VMAs, set to air on September 27th.
"To the fans, I'm always trying to figure out a way to say thank you to you for making my life what it is," Swift said as she accepted the 2024 VMA for Video of the Year (via YouTube).
The first artist to become a billionaire solely from their music
With e-commerce and social media all the rage, many musicians and other celebrities make extra money outside their primary day jobs (online influencers and content creators are a whole other ballgame that we just don't have time to get into right now). For entertainers looking to increase their finances, they can simply generate cash flow through brand partnerships, a couple of affiliate links, and at least one fully-launched side business. You know, nothing crazy.
Now, Taylor Swift was named a billionaire in October 2023 and, according to Forbes, has a current estimated net worth of $2 billion. Unlike other people with various streams of revenue (or celebs with super-rich significant others), Swift's billionaire status is purely based on music-related sales, a historical first. Her music catalog is worth approximately $600 million alone; music royalties and tours reportedly add almost $800 million.
The first person to win Album of the Year 4 times
Winning a Grammy is a big enough achievement in itself. But for those who really want to reach for the sky, as Woody once said, the Big Four are almost always announced at the end of each ceremony: Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year. Only two artists have ever won all four awards in one night: Christopher Cross in 1981 and Billie Eilish in 2020.
As far as Taylor Swift is concerned, she's won 14 Grammys out of 58 nominations between 2010 and 2024, with her last win being Album of the Year for "Midnights." It turns out that Swift set another record with this victory as the first, and still only, person to win four AOTY awards. Aside from "Fearless," Swift also took home the trophy for her albums "1989" (2014) and "Folklore" (2020).
"For me, the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this," the clearly shocked Swift managed to get out during her latest AOTY acceptance speech (via GRAMMYs). "I love it so much. It makes me so happy. It makes me unbelievably blown away that it makes some people happy who voted for this award, too."
The living artist with the most albums on the US Billboard 200 at one time
It's hard enough to get one album to chart on the US Billboard 200, let alone multiple at the same time. Yet, several artists have achieved this impressive feat, a testament to their talent and star power. Now, it's actually Prince who has had the most albums on the US Billboard 200: 19 of his albums hit the charts after he died in 2016.
If we're talking about living musicians, however, Taylor Swift holds the current record with 11 albums; she's also the first woman to achieve such a milestone since 1963. This historical record occurred in 2023 and included "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" in the No. 1 spot, "Folklore" at No. 10, "Red (Taylor's Version)" at No. 18, and "Evermore" at No. 38. Swift is also the first musician to have nine albums on Billboard's top 40 at the same time.
The artist with the highest-grossing music tour in history
Taylor Swift has embarked on six concert tours to date, although since they're usually extensive, it may seem like the number should be higher. Swift's last endeavor, The Eras Tour, lasted nearly 150 performances between March 2023 and December 2024. Upon the release of "The Tortured Poets Department," the Eras Tour set underwent significant changes.
Between a concert film, documentary series, photo book, and several re-released albums, the Eras Tour ended up breaking several records. In late 2023, Swift's tour was named the first in music history to gross more than $1 billion. Upon the tour's conclusion, Pollstar reported that it made more than $2 billion, with over 10 million tickets sold.
"I wanted to overserve the fans. That was my main goal," Swift said on an episode of "The End of an Era" (via Dorm Therapy). "Different styles of dance, different worlds of dance, wardrobe, how far I was gonna push myself."
The youngest person to be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame
Taylor Swift has been quite the busy bee in 2026. While Swift hasn't announced any upcoming albums or new projects as of this writing, she contributed an original song, "I Knew It, I Knew You," for Disney's "Toy Story 5." Swift also earned nine MTV VMA nominations for "The Fate of Ophelia," although most headlines revolved around her wedding to Travis Kelce (including the most unexpected guests who attended).
Musically, Swift broke two records over the summer: At 36 years old, she became the youngest female artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June 2026. In August 2026, she became the youngest musician of all time to be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame — similar things, different organizations.
"From the time I started writing songs as a child, I fixated on Nashville as the perfect place to be," Swift expressed in a statement (via People). "To be honored by this city I love so much is a beautiful thing, and I'm very grateful."
